I am a Brooklyn native and a gardener certified by the NYBG. I have almost a decade's worth of experience, working with large landscaping companies whose out of date practices end up costing the client. My methods are functional and sustainable, using simple gardening practices that prioritize client and the plant happiness. Offering maintenance, installation, replanting/potting, clean up, site assessment and watering as well as functional garden design for peak plant health.
We refer to our customers as neighbors. We are not in it for the big one shot sale but we want to build relationships that grow loyal lifetime customers who trust us, refer us to friends and family and give back to our community. My entire team resides in towns and neighborhoods that we service. I like to think that we are a business that takes care of people. I take care of my employees like they should take care of my customers.
I strive to create beautiful gardens that you want to spend every available moment in. These range from large scale in the Catskills, to typical Brooklyn backyards, and Rooftop gardens in Manhattan. Designing and implementing a garden in tight quarters can be an intimate experience. Because of this I tend to become close and maintain long term relationships with everyone I work with.
Anything garden related, such as transplanting, weeding and seeding, small tree trimming, irrigation shut down, burlapping hedges, laying mulch and like, can be done in a timely manner and great price! Give us a try!

I closed on my house in Oct09, and within a month the insurance company already complained about overhanging tree limbs. I found Barrett Tree Service by performing a basic internet search for companies located near my house. This company was the third company I called for an estimate, and I received the lowest cost (service was performed in Dec09). But this was not the only advantage...Since I just closed on the house I was trying to minimize the cost of this work, so I asked them to just cut one tree on the side of the house and to leave the cut branches on the ground and I would move them and cut them myself. I also told them to perform the job such that the tree would not be harmed in any way, but also to make the job easy for the crew (I'm not a lawn fanatic). First of all, when examining my property in the daylight, I can hardly tell that a truck was parked on the lawn. This company brings padding to protect the lawn, so even after all of the rain we've been having, I still can only see one small tire imprint in the lawn. When examining the trunk of the tree, all of the cuts appear smooth and I can see no damage on the bark. Furthermore, the crew was very clean - I don't see any branches on my lawn, not even little twigs, and there is minimal sawdust. Again, I was willing to clean all of this myself in order to save some money, but this level of service was included in the LOW estimate. Not only are there minimal traces of any work being performed, but the owner even asked me what size to cut the larger branches (this really impressed me). I had asked him to save the wood so I could give it to my dad to burn this winter, and it was cut to size and neatly stacked behind my garage. Another quality service that was included in his estimate! Finally, the owner was very friendly and informative every time we spoke on the phone. Apparently he has been in the industry for approx. 25 years... He understood my concerns for minimizing expenses and to protect the health of the tree, and was very accomodating with my work schedule. I thought I needed to be at the house to oversee the work, but I returned from work one night and everything was complete and performed beyond my expectations. The owner even performed some slight trimming on my tree in the backyard while he was there!!!This was my first time ever using a tree-trimming service, so I do not have any experience to make a comparison (if I had, I probably would have given them 5 stars...). But I can say that I definitely will be using this company again if I need their expertise in the future.

I can’t say enough about how happy I am with the work Sarah did for me. The small backyard of my Brooklyn townhouse was a mess: chain link fence, ugly concrete patio, wildly overgrown garden (90% weeds), and a rusty steel door where water flooded into my basement every time it rained. I felt like I was lucky to have outdoor space, but I never spent any time there. Sarah was one of four landscape designers I spoke to about my project. I wanted a new patio with room for a table and chairs, a new fence that afforded more privacy than the chain link, a basement that didn’t flood, and most of all a garden full of year-round color and texture that I would enjoy spending time in. One of the designers came in with project that was more than twice my budget. Another cut a lot of corners to stay within my budget—her plans called for a new fence on once side of the garden, but not the other. The third came up with a modern design that really didn’t match my century old townhouse—and it included two different seating areas for a postage-stamp sized yard. Sera, on the other hand, designed a beautiful space that accomplished every one of my objectives and delivered it on time and within my budget: a wonderful cobblestone patio in an intersecting circular design, new wooden fencing to cover the chain link (on both sides!) and a beautiful garden with magnolia and dogwood trees, complete with a programmable irrigation system. In addition to designing the garden, Sarah was onsite to oversee the patio and fencing installation, and came back a few weeks after the planting (during a heat wave in late July) to make sure the plants were doing okay. She even made sure I knew how to prune each plant in the fall and prepare the garden for winter. Sarah has a real artist’s sensibility, and it really shows in the care she took with my project.

If you are looking for a Landscape Designer , I highly recommend Elizabeth O'flaherty , located in Brooklyn , NY. I reside in Los Angeles, CA. and wanted to re-do the landscape in Brooklyn. I told her items I wanted and she sent me a landscape design that included everything I wanted and an agreement which included a starting date and a completion date. Everything looks exactly like the design and was completed as contracted. I am very pleased with the results

This place is the perfect refuge from the city. For full disclosure, I am a member, so I can go any time, but it is open any time a member is there - one of the membership responsibilities is that if you visit you have to open it to the public while you are there, so everyone can enjoy it - which usually includes most weekends and weekday afternoons/evenings when the weather is nice. Becoming a member is easy, too; check out the details on the bulletin board by the garden gates!
