He asked us for a "playlist" early on which was a testament to his desire to make this event as memorable as he could!!! I can't say enough about his positive approach to what we were looking for - he really delivered!!! And to top it off, he is a really nice person!!! I've been taking lessons with Edward for not long, only a year, and it's been a pleasure learning to "speak" and "play" this new language. I appreciate Edwards deep well of patience, mandatory to teach students like me who constantly want to know why and how and everything that goes along with learning an instrument that has changed very little, since first invented by Bartolomeo di Francesco Cristofori in the 1700s. I particularly enjoy that Edward teaches not only the obvious importance of fingers-to-keys and site reading, but also discusses music theory, music history and introduces a variety of older and contemporary artists - it is a well-rounded combination. The Featured Artist segment offers students the opportunity to learn about other pianists and introduces a variety of playing styles - both former and contemporary from Clara Schumann to Chick Corea to Diana Krall (some of my favorites). Edwards combination of humour and patience keeps lessons fresh as we move through the evolution of the piano, learn theory and as we discuss the many artists who have shaped this musical art throughout the ages - everything comes together as it has for centuries. My only regret is that I did not begin this challenge earlier - I envy our younger students who will be able to learn and play for years.
