When We’re on Vacation, Our Dog is on Vacation Heidi Casey of ChattDog Trainer came into our lives almost two years ago, after we adopted our ten-month-old pup, Fafnir, from a local animal shelter. Heidi came to our house once a week to train Fafnir--and us. Heidi is a graduate of Pat Miller’s training academy. She has a passion for dogs and her work. She taught us to work with Fafnir using commands and positive reinforcement. She provided handouts for training Fafnir between sessions. We learned the meaning of high-quality treats-- meatballs and cheese in Fafnir’s case. He loved every minute of his training! Fast forward a year. My husband and I traveled to Oregon for two weeks of vacation. We arranged for Fafnir to stay a local boarding facility. The staff were loving, kind, and professional. But Fafnir didn’t do well. So, this Spring, we decided to look into alternative arrangements. We had been in touch with Heidi by Facebook and learned she had expanded her business to include boarding. Now, when we’re on vacation, Fafnir is on vacation--at Heidi’s. He’s given the run of her dog-friendly house. During the day, Fafnir, Smokey, and Heidi hike, run, and ford streams. Fafnir gets extra training on these outings. At night Fafnir curls up with Smokey for a well-earned snooze. Heidi sends us frequent updates by text or email, including photos of Fafnir having the time of his life. When Fafnir is with Heidi and Smokey, we know he is well cared for and having FUN. We’re so grateful for that peace of mind. Carol and Frank White June 2019
