Harrison and I are SO glad that we made the decision to train our dog, Hudson, with Capital Canine. Kevin is the absolute best, and we fully trusted him with our 2 year old dog for the 3 week board and train program. Before training, Hudson struggled with separation anxiety, couldn’t go in a crate or car, was very impulsive and would run away at the park with unreliable recall and boundaries. He is a very sweet natured and fun dog who is great with people, he just needed help learning how to control his energy. Harrison and I did not know where to begin with training, and we felt overwhelmed. Kevin made it extremely easy for us by doing all the hard work in establishing a behavioral foundation during the 3 week board and train. He even kept Hudson for an extra couple of days as he was committed to getting Hudson comfortable in a crate before bringing him home to us. The transformation has been incredible. After Hudson came home to us, there were immediate improvements. He could hold a place, sit, and down through distraction, and rest in his crate when asked. He understood how the E-collar worked, had better recall, and could heel and walk on a leash without pulling. These basic commands have truly changed our day to day and have helped us create more structure in Hudson’s day. On top of the 3 week program, Capital Canine continued to be supportive and helpful. Kevin worked with us in 4 additional sessions after the board and train to teach Harrison and myself how to continue the training throughout different environments and scenarios. He would respond to texts in-between sessions when Harrison and I had questions or were unsure of how we were training. He was a great teacher and helped us understand how dogs think and how we can better communicate with them. We really looked forward to these sessions and enjoyed our time with Kevin! Hudson always had a blast too. A month has now passed since the board and train. We have kept up with Hudson’s training and are confident taking Hudson in public, to parks, family and friend’s houses, and he is a more confident dog in those spaces. The training has been life changing. I am so happy that we did this, not only because it makes our lives easier, but I also know it makes Hudson’s life better too now that he knows boundaries and limits and doesn’t have to feel as anxious as before. Ok so where do I start. Been going to this place for about 7 years now. It may be a bit expensive sometimes but they care for the pets as if they were their own. My pet had a cyst on his neck that was due for surgery the week after he needed to be boarded. Now mind you I can't really leave him anywhere else as he doesn't trust anybody else and usually get sick if I try. Well his cyst blew in the middle of his stay. They took him quickly to the vet to get emergency surgery; I obviously did my part taking care of the cost from my end which isn't the point. But after discharging there was a possibility that due to the post-op care he wouldn't be allowed to board anymore. I was out of the country and panicking. The facility manager, Lindsay, took MY pet to HER home and took care of him for the rest of the stay while I got back. I mean, if that doesn't show true care, I don't know what does. They will always have my trust.

I am so grateful for Firm Foundations K9 Training! I have two dogs who are basically opposite of each other. One is an eager-to-please, high energy sports dogs. The other is a dopey, good-boy guard dog who has better things to do than listen to me. They both needed different training approaches and Austin delivered! They are listening, paying attention to me and my commands and just as happy as ever. They THRIVE on the clear direction! Austin took the time to answer all my questions and he guided me through real-time, hands-on practice with each dog. I was a bit nervous to make sure I was doing everything right, and he helped me feel confident working with my dogs. Though I’ve had the dog 2 weeks from the trainer the gratefulness for the trainer’s work continues. Back ground is that I purchased a 1 yr old dog on line who had zero training. He was an unsold puppy from the breeder. Everything was new to him. I live in NYC and no way could dog come directly to city. Lucy is the trainer’s name… the dog’s name is Milo. Milo never had a collar or leash on, did not do stairs, did not know what toys are, having a person, having a schedule… he knew nothing. In 3 weeks she had Milo happily doing all basic commends. He lived in her home and I received daily update videos of his progress. It left me excited for the next one. Though a bit of credit goes to Milo for having a winning disposition the connection and progress these 2 made way beyond my anticipation. I did research many training/boarding businesses most were disappointing by seeing the kennels and mostly how miserable the dogs looked. The affection Milo had for Lucy and the incredible response he gave with his behavior has impressed me deeply. 100% + recommendation. Did not know something so helpful existed. I have bordered on abuse as the training is over but I do still write questions and receive clear practical answers. I happen to be a critical person so my praise does not come easily though I am gushing here. Much much thanks, Liza

Axel working on keeping up his skills he learned awhile back with Garrett Dugger! He completed the 15day board and train, and I couldn’t be happier with the results! We walked at Highbanks Metro Park today and he really didn’t even need the leash (although the park required, so we followed the rules) I cannot thank Garrett enough for the awesome job he did with Axel!
