If you have a dog, you probably also have ideas about how you and your dog can or should relate. From companionship to protection, dogs can basically do it all, but not without some help. In fact, the biggest threat to the bond between you and your dog is their behavior – the one thing you may not know how to address on your own. At Ancillary K9, we believe you can have the relationship you want with the dog you love.

Two years ago I rescued Gilbert, a truly remarkable but quirky and energetic dog. My best friend thinks he was struck by lightning as a puppy, only partly in jest. I think I did a great job raising him, but Dion has been a revelation. He's given me such an amazing set of tools to help Gilbert and me and our roommates all live together more happily. In part this was Dion correcting mistakes I didn't realize I was making, like using a harness despite Gilbert pulling all the time, but more than that Dion helped me understand how Gilbert thinks. I remember thinking, confused, how can it be that a stranger understands my dog better than me? It's a testament to Dion that he does. He also understands me as a dog owner, and has been empathetic and accommodating of who I am and what I want from owning a dog. I cannot recommend Dion enough. If all you want is to correct minor inconvenient behavior, he's your trainer. If you want to get your dog off leash on trails, he's your trainer. And, though I don't want to take Gilbert to dog shows or through agility exercises, I believe if you do Dion is also your trainer. For your sake and your dog's sake, spend an hour with him. You'll look back and wonder why you spent so long not properly training your dog.

I am a positive reinforcement puppy trainer with a Certificate in Training and Counseling (CTC) from The Academy for Dog Trainers. I specialize in puppy training and socialization. Training is customizable to your goals and will follow vetted training plans. My programs are designed for busy or working professionals and families. We schedule 2-3 sessions/week where I train 1-1 with your puppy while you're at work.

My puppy, Princess Pebbles (a rather insane 5-6 month old chocolate lab puppy), and I got SO much out of our training with CU. I had done training with Guide Dogs for the Blind many years ago as a volunteer puppy raiser, so I wasn't exactly a newbie, but I knew that everyone can use a refresher and an outside eye on things. I wanted someone who worked one-on-one and, more importantly, used only positive reinforcement techniques. Caro and Canine University fit both bills. Caro is one of "those" people when it comes to dogs - she speaks their language and is supremely patient with them. She's also hilarious!! :-) Also, I had never used the "clicker method" and after one class and training session, I was a convert. I would recommend Canine University to anyone!!!!

Zac is amazing. I have two high energy, strong labs and he is wonderful with them. I can now go away for a trip without the slightest bit of guilt because I know that they will have so much fun with Zac. Really, I think my pups are sad sometimes to come home when I go to pick them up. Zac exercises them, plays a ton, and takes them on fun adventures. He's also given me some great tips for training the pups. He really is a dream come true!
