I am not your ordinary puppy class! I also work with older dogs. I prefer group class trainings since the dog has exposure to many other dogs and people who are willing to help. This is especially true when you have a dog that is dog or people reactive. I have been training dogs for over 40 years. Guide dogs, Schutzhund, tracking, herding and my favorite search and rescue (SAR). I have been training SAR dogs since 1985 and currently have 2 FEMA certified K9's, one for live find and one HRD (human remains detection) and am working with my newest dog for trailing. These 3 great dogs are the 6th, 7th and 8th that I have trained for SAR. I am currently the Captain of the Ventura County Search and Rescue K9 team. I have been associated with the National Search Dog Foundation, since it's beginnings in 1987 and also with Los Angeles City Fire Department's Canine Search team CATF1. The first class, with your puppy or dog, I go over many helpful hints that I have learned with my 40 plus years of dog training. The rules of shaping, the "D's" of dog training, clicker training, and we even play a game demonstrating how critical your timing is on rewarding or correcting your dog. We then have several "field trips" to the local parks, here in Simi Valley, to enhance your dog's training. If your puppy hasn't had all their vaccinations yet, we train on the asphalt. One of my favorite training days is "exposure day." Where the training group goes to the local mall, here in Simi, and in the parking lot (safe since this area of the lot is away from the main parking area). I bring many different things that a dog might, or will, be exposed to in it's life. Baby strollers, umbrellas, wheel chairs, walkers, canes and hiking equipment. Bicycles, scooters, and skateboards. I have my clients participate in bringing items too, such as costumes, Halloween masks and hats. The dogs are also trained to wearing booties, muzzles and I show my clients how to make and emergency muzzle out of roll gauze. I am also a certified K9 Nosework instructor, and often have classes for K9 Nosework going on too. I have 3 dogs of my own who love this fun hobby and it is the fastest grow dog sport (hobby) in the world. Check out NACSW.org. I have attended seminars from Karen Pryor, Pat Miller, Sue Sternberg, Dr. Ian Dunbar, and Dick Staal.

What do you love most about your job?

Teaching people how to train their puppies and dogs so they grow up to be great family pets. It's sad how many folks find new homes for their young dogs because they simply didn't spend the quality time that is necessary during the critical time of the puppies life.

What inspired you to start your own business?

When I worked on the Los Angeles City Fire Department (35 years of service as a Paramedic and Fire Inspector) I helped out many firefighters with their dogs. They encouraged me to help out other people when I retired.

Why should our clients choose you?

I know my stuff! I am straight forward, will not make up stories or lie to you if I cannot help you or your dog. I also have a great sense of humor. I bring multiple years of experience with MANY dogs. I have worked with some dog reactive dogs, however, I do not have experience with training aggressive dogs.
I have experience with dogs of all breeds and sizes.

Can you provide your services online or remotely? If so, please add details.

In person is best for both owner and especially their dogs.

What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?

I provided a socially distant setting that allowed for the dogs to work on their socialization skill, yet their owners apart from one another.
We worked outside with masks on and stayed at least 6 feet apart from each other.
