If there were more trainers like the ones over at North County, I bet the shelters would have allot less pups in them! They have the answers for everything that could possible go wrong in the Human-Dog relationship. Their classes are warm and inviting to both handler and pet, and never are they uncomfortable. This place is the BEST! I highly recommend Dogtopia San Marcos for all your pet needs. From getting a bath or a haircut or even just hanging out for the day with other pups! The staff is very friendly, engaging, and really care about your pet (because I think every pet owner thinks their pets are the best and cutest). We have had both our girls at Dogtopia since Dec. 29, 2017 and have seen nothing but the best intentions from the staff. Thank you to all of you for the great care you have shown Marshmallow and Sadie. We will be back I'm sure when we need your services (after we enjoy being in our house for a while). Recognizing the potential in all dogs. Their ability to think, innovate and "grow" into themselves. I've had the privilege of pulling three "boys" from shelters over the last five years, which I proudly call my crew. An American Pit Bull Terrier mix, an Akita mix, and a Bulldog mix. All adults, all from varying backgrounds (including Pala and Rincon Reservations), and all three with distinctly different personalities. By creating an atmosphere based on empathy, trust, communication, and mutual respect; they play, sleep, and invest in each other. They remind me every day of how much is possible.
I have spent over 20 years studying animal behavior both in the field and academically. While working with dogs at the local open-admission shelter, I was chosen to develop and manage the canine program under the Director of Animal Behavioral Services of Escondido Humane Society (EHS). The program I created eliminated euthanasia of adoptable dogs, improved quality of life while in shelter care, and reduced the length of stay for their larger breed dogs. After helping EHS achieve the San Diego Animal Welfare Coalition's (SDAWC) initiative of Getting To Zero (G20), I took an opportunity to focus on dog/dog relationships. While working with dogs of all breeds and sizes, I successfully ran groups of 20+ dogs, specializing in dog/dog introductions and matching beneficial play styles. I have taught In-home lessons, classes, and workshops to individuals, Shelters, Rescues, Day Cares, Pet Sitters, Apartment Communities and private groups. I founded Inspire Canine in 2016.
While running my private practice as head Canine Behavior Specialist, I also attend workshops and seminars on canine behavior, cognition, neuroscience, and ethology.
I have worked with clients from all over the country virtually, including some in Europe.
