Hello! I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LISW-CP) with over 30 years of experience providing therapy services. I'm really glad you've reached out for help. As a dear therapist friend of mine says, "It's never too soon and it's never too late" to enter therapy. I have worked in a wide range of settings with people of all ages and backgrounds. I am a certified Anxiety Treatment Professional in addition to my clinical licensure & I'm well-versed in chronic illness and the special challenges people and their caregivers face. Additionally, I'm a former Special Education teacher (my career took a side road into teaching when my daughter was young) and I have extensive experience with ADHD, learning disabilities, and the many aspects of teacher/parent/student stress. My approach to therapy is client-centered, laid-back and conversational. My style has been described as warm, humorous when appropriate, kind, and non-judgmental. I use a variety of therapy approaches, including client-centered (with unconditional positive regard for you) and Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT). CBT involves looking at how our thoughts affect how we feel and how certain thought patterns can and do lead to self-defeating behavior and feelings. I believe that every person deserves relief from suffering and together we can make that happen. There is no magic to therapy, but the benefits can feel magical!
I love to see the positive life changes that happen over time with a client. To see a person go from being anxious all the time to feeling more relaxed, confident in their ability to tackle life's challenges, and actually feeling happy is the greatest gift of this work!
In addition to my skills as a therapist, I have a great deal of life experience under my belt. I understand that we are all human- no one is perfect- and as humans, we share many common experiences, thoughts, feelings throughout our lives. I'm a proud mom of an out and proud lesbian adult-child, open-minded, and non-judgmental of people's identity or lifestyles. In therapy, we laugh, we cry, and together we find ways to help you navigate your life in positive ways.
My services are completely remote at this time. People sometimes wonder if the remote counseling experience is as effective as in-person and I assure you, it is! Many people also find that they are more relaxed, since they are in their own home (or car, outside, etc), when they connect. It's flexible (you can connect from anywhere- even in your PJs!) and still as effective as in-person therapy.
