Since opening my own private practice, Perceptions LLC, in 2013 we have partnered with Mindful Connections Mental Health and Dr. Johnson in a myriad of ways. We have worked together for marketing purposes, shared office space, and referred clients to each other throughout the years. We have even had the opportunity to share clients in consultative and conjoint therapies. There are few clinicians I would trust as highly as I do Dr. Johnson. She is confident, compassionate, and extremely competent. She excels in particular in the areas of group therapy and personality disorders, and she has an intense passion for providing access to mental health services to those who normally would not be able to utilize those types of services. A culturally competent and skilled practitioner, I have never doubted in her ability to handle clients with unique experiences. Perceptions LLC works extensively with the LGBT population, a frequently marginalized and often under-represented community, and we have referred several of our clients to Dr. Johnson, trusting completely that our clients will receive compassionate and considerate care. We look forward to continuing to grow our partnership together with Mindful Connections Mental Health, and are eternally grateful to have such a talented and trusted resource to work side by side with in efforts to improve mental health for our communities.

Ray took time to understand the issues between us, he was very professional, thorough and careful to try to get to the bottom of the issues. I was not truthful about all my actions towards my wife initially and he was very direct in dealing with that. After I was truthful with everyone it really got better. Suzanne and I are really working good as a couple now, and it's 100% Ray who got us going in the right direction.

I am passionate about providing the latest evidence-based and trauma-informed interventions, education, skills and empowerment through learning to truly value yourself and teaching others to do the same. It is so easy to become stuck wrestling with relational difficulties or even abuse. I specialize in working with individuals experiencing emotional and/or narcissistic dysfunction and abuse, addiction (or living with someone who is addicted), and those who have or are surviving interpersonal and intimate-partner violence of any kind.

I have worked with several counselors in Colorado Springs, but Brittany is by far the best. After a million tries and several other counselors, I'm celebrating 90 days sober today which is a feat I haven't accomplished in a very very long time. Adult adjustment can be difficult especially with past trauma. Goals can be hard to define let alone accomplish. It is important to know you are not alone. My talk therapy is designed to help you reach your best you. You are capable. You are amazing. You are enough.
You have tried to change. You grit your teeth and power through. You convince yourself that you are “fine”, but honestly, everything feels as crappy as it did before. You want to be and behave differently…what if all you need is a little guidance? What if your brain and body could do what they were designed to do…and healed themselves? I know what it feels like to be stuck, to be shadowed by the past, and to feel like you cannot move forward towards the life you really want. I also know what it feels like to break old patterns, to change your thoughts and to take steps in the direction you've been hoping to go. I would count it a true privilege to walk alongside you. So, let's chat.
I chose to become a therapist because life can be incredibly challenging, painful and confusing. Being able to provide compassion, guidance and help in different seasons of a person's life is unbelievably rewarding. I love hearing about the different experiences that people have had, how they have survived and then helping them write a better story for their own future. Seeing someone grow and heal is what makes me want to continue doing this job. It is an amazing privilege.
I wanted to start my own therapy practice because I wanted to be able to do what is best for my clients without having to follow one-size-fits-all policies and procedures that many other organizations and group practices have to follow, due to insurance guidelines. The reality is, people are complex! We all have different personalities, strengths, needs and desires. Running my own therapy practice allows me the freedom to provide specialized care to my clients and to bring all of my own unique gifts and talents to the clients that I serve.
Clients have a tough job, because they really do have a lot of possible therapists to choose from. It can feel so daunting when you are trying to figure out who you can trust, and who you will feel a genuine connection with. I get it!
Because of that, I would love to offer up some details about myself that will give you a glimpse into my personality:
- I have kind of a dark sense of humor. I would describe myself as witty, sarcastic and a huge fan of laughing at the absurdity of being a person. Laughter is always a part of my therapy sessions!
- I'm a born and raised Army brat. I learned early on how to be flexible and adapt to my environment; I can pack like I'm playing tetris and I used to think MRE's were the coolest thing in the world.
- If I had the opportunity, I would live on a ranch and have horses, dogs, bunnies and goats everywhere.
- Thunderstorms are my favorite kind of weather. (Also thundersnow - SO COOL).
Therapeutically speaking, my favorite modality is what we call EMDR (Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). It is incredibly effective and really utilizes our brain and body's natural processes to heal us from all kinds of disturbing life events. I would love to speak with you about it if you are interested!
I only provide telehealth/tele-counseling and can therefore provide services to clients all over the state of Colorado. No matter where you are in Colorado, I can provide excellent and thorough counseling services.
My clients are 100% protected from COVID 19 as I provide fully remote services.
