Sky Meadows State Park is a hidden gem of a place. It's only a little more than an hour away from the DC area, but it's never crowded, the trails are fantastic, the view is magnificent, there's AT access, and the rangers offer a variety of programs for the public. There're even a few campgrounds for those so inclined. One of my favorite outdoor destinations in the Blue Ridge.

My husband and I were here for lunch and the food was so good we went back for dinner. Pulled pork and ribs were especially good. The barbeque sauce is the best!! Collard greens were excellent as were the steamed veggies. It's a laid back kind of place with wait staff that makes you feel like an old friend in a short time. We can't wait to get back on our next trip to Front Royal.

Fortunately the food is amazing because the staff isn't. The cashier is as slow as a snail. The wait to order was a line almost to the door with only this S L O W girl ringing up the orders. Finally when we were able to get to the ordering cashier, a girl comes out from the back to "help" on the second register (with only two people behind us) NO one likes their job there.. not one single one smiled. BUT>> the food is fantastic .. and in the end, that is what is important to me.

Our Signature items are our hickory smoked meats and our side dishes. Our barbecue is prepared on hickory smoked grills and the sauce for the barbecue is our Signature sauce, prepared in house by Chef Ed (the sauce alone is requested). Our Pulled Barbecue Meats (Pork, Chicken, Brisket), Baby Back Ribs are the most popular meat selections. Seasonally, our Brown Sugar Glazed Ham and Roasted Turkey are also highly requested.
All Sides are prepared in house. The Macaroni & Cheese, Collard Greens, Potato Salad, Green Beans, Baked Beans and Cole Slaw are popular side items. Our Country Style Green Beans are a consistent selection for vegetables and the Green Bean Almandine is always a highlight to the menu.
We start our menu by ensuring that a salad and bread for the meal is served with all meals. All menus include these items. The client creates their customized menu based on the options we have available per category: Meats, Starches, Vegetables. We give a starting example of the Pulled Pork Option this is 1 *Standard Meat, 1 Side and 1 Vegetable option: Mixed Garden Salad, Pulled Pork (with Side Slaw), Macaroni & Cheese, Country Style Green Beans, Buns). This is a popular selections and our standard starting menu priced at 10.00 per person. Adding additional meats and sides requested determine the final pricing. Our most popular option would be the 2 *Standard Meats, 1 Starch, and 1 Vegetable at 15.00. Barbecue is generally selected as an option and the Cole Slaw is automatically included (you can't have barbecue without it).
*Standard Meats include the non premium items, ie: Brisket, Ribs, Prime Rib, and Non Premium Fish ie: Shrimp.
There are numerous components that I love about what I do but at the end of the day they all add up to being a part of memorable event and being a great memory of that day.
