I attended a dinner party that Emily catered and was so impressed by her clever approach to the Mexican cuisine that she prepared. Everything was recognizable and approachable for all types of eaters, but with a twist that made each bite interesting.
When I first arrived and walked into the kitchen I saw these beautiful prepared fish tacos and immediately thought, ooh, I want those! And the delightful little soup appetizer? I want that, too! The entire meal was thoughtfully planned out to reach all preferences/ restrictions. Everybody's plate was full, and that says a lot in a room full of diverse women.
You know the food is great when it sparks the conversation and connection amongst a group newly meeting each other! I'd definitely hire Emily for my own dinner parties.

Went here on the opening day and was really impressed. Everyone was very kind and helpful in explaining where their food was sourced from. The coffee they use is Stumptown from New York and (though it was very delicious!) I was kind of surprised they were not using beans from a local Chicago roaster, especially since so many other ingredients were locally-sourced or house made. Also had the Bloody Mary. It was very tasty, but I definitely like mine to be a little spicier and more pickle-y. It was much better with a dollop of the Co-op Hot Sauce Chi-racha sauce (conveniently located on the table for my bountiful enjoyment).Anyway, I was told that the breakfast sandwiches were the star of the show, so I ordered the Maple Sausage Breakfast Sandwich with organic egg, house made crumpet, and house made feta spread. The sausage had great, sweet flavor and the crumpet was incredibly buttery and light (but totally held up to the rest of the sandwich). The tangy-ness of the feta spread and the sweetness of the maple sausage kind of threw me off, but again, a dollop of the Chi-racha hot sauce brought all the flavors together in one big delicious celebration of good. Finally, I had to get one of the many pastries that were taunting me from the counter, so I went for the rhubarb and ricotta "pop tart." This was incredible. The flakey crust was buttery and light and the filling was not too sweet. Seriously, buy yourself a pastry. I'm so happy to have this new place in the neighborhood and I definitely will be back again.

COST:$10 (Small White Chicken Combo, Breast and Wing, Bread and Pickles)Sweet (or hot? But that'd be too weird) lord almighty. Honey Butter Fried Chicken and Crisp, meet your competition! I need to preface this by saying I can't say I've had the pleasure of eating any piece of Nashville style hot fried chicken before but I'd like to think I'm a fried chicken expert. I've had and loved it since the beginning of time. Having tried my first ever one, I can say that it's good to see another company toss their hat into Chicagoland's best fried chicken ring. I love them all equally as each three pack a different flavor. And flavors this place sure has! It's unfortunate I never got to try Bunny the Micro Bakery, but I'm equally as excited The Budlong has officially come to Lake View! They don't have as extensive a menu as their soon to open bigger restaurant, but what it offers now is perfect for the neighborhood. I might try to come back tonight to try some biscuits since I missed them earlier (they ran out, sadly)!!
