We're BACK!!! To update my review (we went for lunch instead last time and it was very good - see review here somewhere and pictures) and so we came back before 11 am or 11:30 am for breakfast!!! Why?? ...... ============== What's UP? ======== review down below============ Fresh Start is our 21st entry in the Quest for the TOP THREE great Eggs Benedict / Breakfast spots in the Sarasota, Vamo, Osprey, Nokomis, Venice corridor. Eggs Benedict w/Ham, Florentine, or specialty (seafood, veggies, corned beef/hash, or others) and hash browns/potatoes and grits are the sides. We will narrow it down to top 3 in a few weeks and re-visit them and win, place, & show those finalists. (we are getting a bit fatter, I am not sure how many more we can try out) The Breakfast Cottage 6 Eggstraordinary Café BLVD Café Max's Table Willow's Café Toasted Mango Café Anita's Restaurant Blu Island Bistro Word of Mouth The Breakfast House Sun Garden Café Sunnyside Café Rosemary & Thyme Millie's Restaurant The Reserve Retreat Café Evergreen Another Broken Egg Café Green Zebra First Watch Station 400 Fresh Start ================== review here below ================== Seated fairly quickly considering the place was packed. A group of 7 sucked down 'waiting' chairs and a table, but we were quickly accommodated. NO problem. OH still got a parking spot in their lot.....FREE and safe in Sarasota. (make me happy and sets the tone - I hate paying for parking or getting tickets) Our server was prompt and pleasant. Coffee and waters never past half full or room temp. Powerful brew.....note to self go easy and I won't start perspiring and twitching from the caffeine!!! A small pecan or almond cookie is a nice touch. My wife got the ShakShuka which is Israeli poached eggs in tomato sauce served with a chopped salad (you can get fruit) & bread (pita). There was a nice an powerful hot sauce that was pretty nice and flavorful. She like the tomato sauce and the salad got a few mmms and yummy scores. Pita was also seconds fresh and very nice. OF note because we are doing "Eggs Benedict" and the like with poached eggs.....the eggs are a primary criteria. This dish was wonderfully cooked and the sauce was great....however it was SO nice and hot when the probably perfectly cooked poached eggs were added.........the yokes were SOLID and hard boiled when they were being eaten at the table?? They got overcooked from the kitchen to the table. (I have no idea what the solution is for this. maybe floating the pita bread in the middle and putting the egg on top of it so it does not take on any more heat??? Or maybe on the side to be added tableside?? Or cooked (undercooked) and hope for a soft poached eggs result? My poached eggs with spinach on a slice of marble rye 'toast' bread with hollandaise sauce was my closest to Eggs Benedict entry as I could find. Almost a Florentine without a tomato or etc. No ham option which I would like to suggest as 'traditional' (I did see ham on another egg option so its in store. Lox is just not a choice for me as a fish and egg deal has not been agreeable to my palate. Prosciutto also not comparable to a Canadian ham either) So the eggs were poached and PERFECT!!!!! The spinach steamed/sauté lightly and was also great. The hollondaise sauce was tasty but not sour tangy as many are. A VERY respectable sauce!!! My only gripe is that the 'marbled rye toast' bread was NOT toasted, but simply a very nice sliced soft bread. Awesome for a Rueben or some other great sandwich but at the bottom of wet spinach, egg and juices, and a hollandaise sauce, it became a wet bread paste and there was a fairly thick and large slice to boot. I would have preferred two TOASTED English muffins OR half the 1 inch thick bread slice of this marbled rye and then TOASTED IT so the spinach and eggs and hollandaise sauce sat on top. so on the poached eggs/eggs benedict scale its a 7/10. A nice product and a very good effort!!! These guys are on the best of list for breakfast and lunch if in the Sarasota downtown area. Give them a try for breakfast OR lunch it's a winner!!!

My husband and I treated my in-law's to dinner at Off the Hook over Mother's Day weekend and have nothing but wonderful things to say about our experience. The fish is purchased from local fisherman daily and you could taste the freshness! Everything was fantastic and everyone in our group loved their selections. Would definitely recommend the shrimp and grits, mussels in a lemongrass broth, fried artichokes and the grouper. Delicious with great service as well! :)

My husband and I happened upon this gem while on vacation in Siesta Key. We couldn’t have been happier with the ambiance, service, drinks and of course, the food. We ordered the Brick oven pizza that was on special. The spicy pepperoni, spicy sausage, smoked mozzarella with red sauce. The sauce was the best that I have ever had and I am from ChicagoI love thin crust pizza and this was perfection. I always worry that the crust will be soggy in the middle and this was the perfect crisp all the way to the center. This will be the first stop when we are back in town but until then I will just have to see you in my dreams

1. Susie-was our waitress! Our service was so good. Very friendly, informative waitress. Knew her stuff. 2. The selection of fresh meats, awesome. Beautiful. BEEF!!! TURDUCKEN! SAUSAGE! 3. My steak was perfect!!! So yummy! 4. Hubby go the Turducken featured on Diners Drive-ins and Dives. I was nervous at first as I am not one to eat my foods mixed together, but I couldn't not try it. After all it's why I heard of the place. It was soo delicious. I will be back before going home. I will have the Turducken as the main course. Seriously thinking about it for Christmas dinner. THEY SHIP THEM NATIONWIDE!!!
