For anyone new to working out or just looking to feel better both physically and mentally, Hugo is your man. I had knee issues and tendinitis/tennis elbow and he was able to simplify things so I can better understand what's wrong and how to fix it almost instantly. I had previously gone to a physical therapist and they were telling me all the scientific names for it and the exercises were so specific and complicated for a newbie that I wasn't even sure if I was doing it right until I met Hugo. He is VERY knowledgeable, positive and patient. I've done exercises I didn't think I could and I've gained more muscle than I thought I ever could. A big bonus: for all my adult life I couldn't put my hair up in a ponytail or bun because it'll cause a migraine and my doctor actually told me, its just how it is for some people, just like my tendonitis is chronic (it's not). Hugo suggested increasing my iron intake, so I took supplements and lo and behold, I can actually put my hair up now without any issues. I couldn't believe it. He has helped me be physically stronger which in turn, made me mentally stronger than when I first started. I even have more energy in the day. I've been working with Hugo for about 10 months and he is fantastic. He's knowledgeable, patient, personable, and a great motivator. Whether you're doing an exercise for the 1st time or 10th time, Hugo always goes over the proper technique and explains not only HOW to do something but also WHY it's important. I have had a low back issue (and later a shoulder issue) and he's always made sure that we're working within my physical limitations and that I'm not feeling discomfort during or after an exercise. It's daunting for someone who works a desk job and who hasn't exercised regularly for years to seek out personal training, but I hit the lottery jackpot with Hugo. Never have I felt ashamed or embarrassed about my capabilities while working with him. In fact, Hugo's keen eye, emphasis on proper warmups and forms, incredibly expansive knowledge on how to take care of the body to keep it at peak performance, and much more solidifies him as one of the best in the business to train with. Everytime I go I am energized not only by the workouts, but by how much I know Hugo truly cares to see his clients grow. There are times when I can't do a certain exercise due to the limitations of my capabilities, but Hugo will ALWAYS keep a smile on his face, talk about how good a try it is, and adjust the exercise so it fits more with what you can do. He pushes and encourages, but never to an excessive degree, and it has helped tremendously in shaping me up both physically and mentally. Where do I even start? I've been a client of Hugo's since 2022. I was looking for someone knowledgeable, kind, professional, and motivated. Hugo is exactly THAT. I can say with confidence he is worth the investment - one that will not only change you physically, but mentally as well. From the beginning Hugo was clear in detailing what it would take for me to reach my fitness goal (macros, exercise, sleep, water intake, etc). In the gym he always reviews the exercise beforehand and that's helped tremendously with my form as a gym noob. This foundation has helped me avoid injuries and gain strength. It's also made me a smarter consumer of the fitness industry. The amount of fitness misinformation on social media is astronomical and I'm happy to say the knowledge I've gained from Hugo has helped me decipher the lies from the truths. During sessions I appreciate how he checks in on you if you are having a hard time keeping up and adjusts the exercises as necessary. They are still challenging but not to the point where you feel like you're going to pass out. I've been with coaches who push you to the point of exhaustion and that's never been fun. When it comes to macros, he's helpful in giving tips and tricks to stick to them. He shares ways to meet your protein intake both in your diet and via supplements. That's been the hardest part of my fitness journey, but if you're consistent that will change your body the most! I found this gym on yelp when I needed a good personal trainer after my knee injury. I purchased one round of the yelp package where it was a few training sessions for a discounted price. I got paired with CHRISTIAN and he was awesome! He was very knowledgeable about injuries and taught me exercises that strengthened the muscles around it. I wish he would do group classes so I could afford it more. The personal sessions were a bit too expensive for me. But it was top quality. He would come fully prepared and would be very focused and patient. I would highly suggest it! More...

Hugo is an AWESOME personal trainer!!! Seriously can't say enough good things about him.<br><br>Why's he awesome?<br><br>-His workouts are tough. He pushes you to your limit and you'll see strength you never even knew you had.<br><br>-He's ALWAYS correcting your form. He goes over the forms with you EVERY. SINGLE. SESSION. Which is so important because sometimes you think you have the form down but if theres something that needs correcting he corrects you!<br><br>-He's knowledgeable in what he does. Doesn't push his opinions on you but answers your questions with a lot of depth and information.<br><br>Why I went to him?<br><br>- I was 2.5 months post partum with my 2nd child and wanted to lose weight along with body fat. I needed to try something new that will keep me consistent.  <br><br>My results<br><br>-I've been going to Hugo for 4 months (Jun-Oct), 2x a week. For my plan, we did a lot of compound movements aimed to build muscle which reduced body fat and weight. He keeps track of all of my progress from measurements to workout progression which is so interesting to look back on and see how far I've come. He also put together a meal plan for me and a workout plan for other days I'm not training with him. If you're looking for a personal trainer, seriously look no further. Choosing Hugo to be my personal trainer was one of the best decisions I have ever made and it has changed my life. Before training with Hugo, I had been wanting to get in shape for many, many years but the gym always intimidated me. I had a few short and scattered periods of time where I would work out with a friend but I always found myself not progressing and subsequently losing motivation. One year ago, I decided enough was enough and so I started looking for a personal trainer, found Hugo on Yelp, and made an initial appointment with him. I remember feeling terrified and insecure before my first session since I was not familiar at all with going to the gym and working out. Within 30 seconds of meeting Hugo, however, all that fear disappeared as his non-judgmental and understanding attitude instantly made me feel comfortable. I could also tell immediately how experienced and knowledgeable he was as he explained every exercise and focused on the correct technique. His positivity and passion were also so contagious that I actually enjoyed my session and felt myself eager for the next one. Since then, I have stayed with Hugo for over one year and definitely never see myself training with anyone else. Not only have I seen progress, I have seen a complete transformation in my outlook on my physical health. I've been training with Hugo for almost a year now, and I believe he is one of the most experienced &amp; committed trainers around. I really enjoyed the variety &amp; challenge he puts into the sessions. His talent and professionalism is definitely far superior than most.<br><br>Hugo is focused on helping me achieve my goals and makes every session challenging (&amp; somehow fun). My fitness has increased noticeably and I've seen improvements in my ability to complete more core exercises, lift progressively heavier weights, &amp; generally push myself harder throughout each session. I find I actually look forward to my workouts.<br><br>More importantly, he ensures that my technique is always correct to avoid any injuries. He is also extremely reliable &amp; punctual - always set up &amp; ready to start training ahead of time, with an exercise routine planned. I have been a yelp user for a while now, but I hardly write any review (prolly hand full).  This review is directed to my personal review, Hugo.  He is truly amazing.  I had been playing sport since I was a kid but literally have to stop due to hectic work schedule.  Until a point I cannot stand myself being overweight so I decided to set myself a goal for this year.  After weeks of researching, I found Hugo and ask him to be my personal trainer.  He is very detail orientated, patience to demonstrate the posture for each exercise and make sure each routine is challenging.  He has been my trainer for little over 2 months. Since I had back injury from basketball, I never perform deadlift, but with his guidance and patience I was able to perform 3 sets of 85 pounds on the very first week and setting my personal record 200 pounds last week.  I just want to say if anyone lives near San Gabriel Valley and want to look for a personal trainer, Hugo is the one to go to. I was looking for a personal trainer around my area and I came across Hugo on Thumbtack and Yelp. He had one of the highest reviews for personal trainers in my area and I wanted to make sure I hired a true professional. I've never hired a personal trainer before and I'm SO glad I went with Hugo! He is truly a professional. Since the beginning, he's always been extremely attentive, encouraging, positive and he genuinely cares about his clients. Hugo takes his time to explain every little detail to me- from the meal plan to proper techniques, I cannot stress enough how awesome he is. He makes sure that you are doing the proper technique, breathing right and he's always checking in with you. He's extremely knowledgeable and knows exactly what he's doing. I was always afraid of weight lifting before but I wasn't getting anywhere just doing cardio. I wanted to tone up my body, but most importantly become stronger. With Hugo's help, I've progressed so much within the past few weeks and I'm in awe! We did a progress check in and I was shocked about how much progress I made lol. Recently completed 3 months of training with a Hugo and I must say it was an amazing life changing experience! I've never felt or looked better and it helped working out and eating better become part of my daily routine. Before Hugo I never really worked out didn't know where and how to start would always wander in the gyms so I found Hugo who helped me pinpoint my body goals and walked me through the whole process. He is very detailed and understanding. Teaches you how to workout properly and where you should feel certain workouts which is amazing information when heading back to the gym on your own. His meal planning is super helpful and easy to follow if you go that route. I recommend him to anybody wanting to start off or people just looking to improve their workout routine. I came across Hugo's Yelp page earlier this year.<br>After reading several reviews, I gave him a call and set up a meeting. I was immediately impressed with his professionalism and knowledge in his field. And our journey began... Hugo was able to connect with me in a way that made my training sessions feel as if I'm working out with a buddy rather than going to a grueling gym session. I found Hugo because I want to be well prepared for my Army Basic Training. I can say Hugo is a very professional trainer. He is well knowledgeable for training, injury prevention and nutrition. Working with Hugo has been life changing. These past couple of years I noticed that I had allowed myself to get out of shape. When I met with Hugo I never felt pressured or insecure. His personality showed me that I could trust him with my health. When my journey began I was feeling lazy, unmotivated, and insecure about my body. Hugo has one of the most important things that I looked for in a trainer, he has this positive energy that makes you want to come back for more. You can tell that he loves what he does and he should because he has a gift for it. I found Hugo on yelp. After reading all of his clients' positive testimonials, I immediately contacted him to set up a time to meet. <br><br>The first session (a fitness assessment) was challenging and informative! He creates a customized meal plan and cardio plan (for days you aren't training with him) based on your fitness goals. I'm not usually a runner, however, I have clocked in anywhere from 6-12+ miles every week over the past couple of months. I don't believe I ran more than 3 miles last year alone! Hugo also shared with me a couple of running apps that help keep track of my distance, time, calories and another app that produces a 3D video of your run...all very exciting and helpful for me to see my progress week to week!<br><br>Hugo is hands down knowledgeable, personable and most definitely motivating. He focuses on form and technique and will demo things before I'm to perform the exercise, which I truly appreciate. I'm glad I chose Hugo as my PT to help me get back into shape! With being a mom and all, it was tough to find guidance. At first I was hesitant to get a PT again because I'v had one before and it was a complete fail. It was such a bad experience so I just gave up. <br><br>While searching for the right PT, I came across Hugo. After reading his reviews and scrolling through his client's before/ after photos, I must say that I was really impressed. So, I thought I'd give him a try.<br><br>Hugo is very passionate about his career. He pride himself in helping others get into shape and to feel good about themselves. Hugo knows what he's talking about and is very knowledgeable in fitness/ health. With a driven personality, he keeps you motivated which keeps you pushing forward!<br><br>Every sessions with Hugo, I leave feeling like my legs and arms are about the fall off. But I must say, I leave feeling greater than ever. I walk out of the gym feeling confident and being one step closer to my fitness goal! He really kicks my glutes! His challenges are tough because I would never think I can complete them. But somehow, I end up completing them. What a great thing to feel.<br><br>Hugo was always there to answer my 21 questions even if i feel like they are silly questions. I have been working with Hugo for almost 6 months. He is amazing! He's incredibly caring and accommodating toward a person's schedule. I have a 2 year old and I care for my sick mother; he is always incredibly considerate to my crazy scheduling needs. The work outs are amazing, they go by very quickly because you are having a lot of fun. During each session, through each maneuver, he explains thoroughly the benefits and scientific reason why we are doing each exercise. He answers every question you may have, and offers advice on how to accomplish your fitness goals outside of his sessions. He helped me with an eating plan tailored to my weight loss needs. He not only brings his experience, but also his extensive scientific and physiological knowledge to help get you the best results mentally and physically. He's never pushed me too far, nor gone too easy on me. He knows my limits better than I do! I've been training with Hugo for about two months now and he's awesome! I've definitely gotten stronger since I first started training with him and I've learned a lot about working out since I've never been to a gym on my own. I think it can be very intimidating for someone looking to get in shape to  find the right trainer. With so many options out there, there is an innate fear you will fall into the hands of someone who may be too much of a "yeller-drill-sergeant. " Hey- if that works for you, more power to ya. But- that's not what I was looking for. <br><br>Hugo from day one has shown commitment to my goals, without the need to yell. =) He is patient, motivating, and incredibly kind. He pushes me beyond what I think I am capable of doing. He structures and tailors the workout based on MY personal goals and needs- and switches them up every session keeping each workout fresh, and challenging. Every week I feel myself getting stronger. He tracks your progress, and has a very organized structure for your goals. Every work out begins and ends with stretching- something I have found incredibly valuable as part of the session (and something I wasn't doing well on my own). During the workout he focuses on proper form- less on repetitions, and really makes sure you are doing correctly to avoid injury. He is punctual, confirms every single session the night before with your scheduled time, and is understanding if you need to cancel or adjust your training day (as long as you do it ahead of time). Bonus- he is also extremely knowledgeable when it comes to human anatomy. This guy is insanely smart. <br><br>I have to say, the search to find a good trainer was like playing roulette- but I am sooo glad I found and took a chance with Hugo. Hugo got my ass into shape! I enjoyed the work out plan he created for me. They are never repetitive so I don't get bored! He provides detailed attention to how my body is doing and offers adjustments if he feels I can be challenged more and focuses on proper form. My favorite part is the stretching after each work out to help with muscle recovery, which my previous instructor did not do. If you're looking for a trainer, look no further-Hugo is the best! I had no idea what to expect when I started looking for a personal trainer.  I just knew I had to do something more than join a gym, and never go.  Taking the free assessment session with Hugo was one of the best things I have done.  You can definitely tell that he knows what he is doing.  He is always well organized, hardworking, and dedicated to you, and your training.  He's extremely patient with you, and always encourages you too.  You are also provided with a meal plan that is easy to follow, and instructions for cardio training as well.  In the past year that I have trained with him, I have lost over 30 lbs, and 4 inches off my waist.  Not to mention I feel much better, and am stronger physically.  I couldn't have done it on my own, and I don't mind paying for the help to get there.  Hugo always works with your schedule, and is pretty accommodating.  He truly cares, and wants you to succeed.  You definitely get what you pay for, and it's worth it.  If I didn't relocate up North, I would still be training with him today.  If you want the best, train with Hugo! I was randomly searching for personal trainer on Yelp few months ago and got a list of 5 trainers contacting me. Hugo was very genuine. He took his time explaining how he trains and he offered me a free introductory class to try. This was my first time working with a personal training so I honestly didn't know if I was going to like the training session. Hugo was very knowledgeable and patient. I had been working out on my own for years, but decided I give a personal trainer a shot. I was a bit skeptical at first with these PTs due to hearing a lot of bad personal stories from friends, however that was not the case with Hugo! He haa exceeded my expectations and then some. <br>Hugo provides you with a meal plan, basic enough for you to follow but complex enough to see the specifics. His workout sessions are anywhere between 45 mins to an hr depending on how fast a person can go through their workouts. Hugo starts off not to hard first few session, testing out what you can and can't do. Once you get a feel for all the workouts and excerises that's when the grind begins. You will be tested physically and mentally. Hugo is constantly there to encourge you and to make sure your form doesnt suffer. You will also do pre workout stretchs, make sure muscles dont cramp up, along with post workout recover stretches ( which a lot of people tend to not do.)<br><br>Hugo is also very open in terms of asking for advise outside of your sessions via text. Any questions regarding meal plans, recover stretches, and any other question to help you on your fitness journey, he is more than willing to help. Hugo is one of the most patient and hardworking people I have ever met! I've gone back and forth on getting a personal trainer because 1. I'd have to admit to myself that I'm not as active as I used to be, 2. I'd have to invest the money to maintaining one, and 3. I'd have to find someone I like enough so I wouldn't feel awkward around them. <br><br>I started with Hugo's deal of 3 sessions for around $90 I believe. It was a great way for us to meet, see how he is as a trainer, and for him to tell me about his process. The one thing that I love is that he explains/demos everything before you do it. It's great because whether you remember the workout or not, he still shows you. Hugo is also very attentive in the sense that he doesn't just stand around waiting for you to be done with you set, but he makes sure that you are doing everything correctly so you not only have the form correct but you don't hurt yourself either. Along with personal training, Hugo also provides you with a meal plan &amp; a workout plan for the days you are not training with him. <br><br>Side note: I hurt my foot hiking and iced it when I got home. At one of our sessions, Hugo actually really helped me by telling me what was causing the strain in my foot (it was because my calf was tight), he showed me how to stretch it, and he spent a good amount of time rolling my calf. This is most likely about to get very long, so the TL;DR = Hugo is the man! He's extremely personable, friendly, 100% professional, knowledgeable (huge focus on technique and knows about the body and how to work around ailments), encouraging, non-judgmental, and empathetic to the struggles we all face when it comes to living a healthy lifestyle. <br><br>Now, here we go... I've worked out with Hugo for about 3 months now...<br><br>THE GOOD:<br>Hugo is extremely professional - he always has the game plan personalized and ready for you when you walk in. He has your entire workout timed out perfectly to fit within your allotted time.  He never expects you to move weight, clean up after yourself, track reps, or rest periods, etc.  He also always sends you a reminder text the night before a workout.  He takes care of all of that for you to ensure that every barrier is removed - all you have to do is show up do give your best effort.<br><br>He follows his tried and true process - Hugo will explain to you his process and philosophies (including what is expected of you outside of the gym in order to reach your agreed upon goals).  If you follow the plan, he will get you results. He tracks all of your progress for you and shares bits and pieces to help keep you motivated (this is important because as he adds more weight and you ultimately struggle, he reminds you just how far you've come).<br><br>He is encouraging without judgement - Hugo will assign you outside "homework" (cardio) and provide tips for healthy eating.  At the beginning of each workout he will check in with your progress outside of your one-on-one sessions. Ultimately, I've never hit a "perfect week" but Hugo really creates a safe environment where you don't feel guilt and can be honest with your shortcomings - he always listens carefully for "excuses" (my words, not his) and usually offers a tip or two on how you can improve next time.<br><br>Hugo is certified and has a LOT of knowledge about the human body - Twice in these past 3 months, I've dealt with injuries/issues. The first was fighting off a cold. I called him letting him know the situation. He asked me a few questions about my symptoms and he felt it was better that I get rest rather than fight through (he didn't charge me for this last minute cancellation - although I felt it would have been fair given that he had lost the ability to monetize that time slot).  He then followed up with an email explaining which symptoms gave him a sign that training through the cold may actually have negative effects and cause more harm than good. The second time, I had injured my "foot" while completing my off-day cardio.  I explained this to Hugo before coming in.  Again, he asked me about some of my symptoms and how I injured it.  From this he explained that my foot injury was actually most likely a symptom of a problem in my calf (and thoroughly explained what was likely going on).  Before working out that evening, Hugo spent about 15 minutes "rolling" my calf and having me perform specific stretches.  Sure enough, at the end of the 15 minutes, my foot was in great shape for the workout (and pain free) - even then he kept checking-in throughout the workout to ensure we didn't strain anything further (and was able to keep the workout within our time slot).<br><br>Most importantly, Hugo is focused 100% on technique. I've never performed a single exercise with Hugo without him first taking the time to review each piece of the movement (even if it was already our 10th time performing it).  He explains how to move, what and where you should feel the burn, proper breathing, and WHY you're doing the movement (which muscles are being worked).  Once you start the movement, he watches you carefully. If he sees an improper movement, he will guide you to the right position or use other techniques to help you get there.  He also asks questions and listens well.  Often times, I will tell him that I am not feeling the burn where he said I should.  From this information he can usually tell what I'm doing wrong and help me re-focus my technique to the proper movements.<br><br>Lastly, Hugo trains at Matador Performance Center.  This place is really great because it's a private training gym.  Everyone here is either 1.) a trainer or 2.) a client. They're all there with the same goal of self-improvement and it feels like a safe environment.<br><br>THE BAD:<br>I honestly can't think of anything BAD about Hugo or his process.  As with anything that is one-on-one and personalized, Hugo's professional expertise does not come CHEAP - you get what you pay for and his prices are more than fair.<br><br>OVERALL:<br>I really can't say enough good things about Hugo. Above all of his professional qualifications, Hugo is genuinely a really nice guy.  If you've ever thought about personal training before, but were too shy / unsure / self-conscious, etc. I recommend you reach out to Hugo.  He will put you at ease and help you achieve your fitness goals. I started training with Hugo about a month and a half ago and I couldn't be happier with the decision I made. In the short amount of time I feel stronger and more energized throughout the day. He is knowledgeable and explains everything thoroughly. Hugo makes adjustments to the exercises to make sure you are using the right muscles to get the most out of the workouts. He helps you create healthy eating habits. I've had several trainers in the past and Hugo exceeds them by far. He knows how much he can push you and when you need to stop. Pros: <br>- Friendly and Professional<br>- Has 2 Certifications on Personal Training<br>- Stretching before and after workouts sessions<br>- Great in explaining how to have the correct exercise forms/stances<br>- Provides a great meal plan in conjunction with your exercises to both fit your life style and training goals<br><br>Cons:<br>- None<br><br>Hugo was my personal trainer 5-6+ years ago back at the Monterey Park 24 Hour Fitness gym. Before him I had maybe 2-3 trainers who just didn't work out. Back then I had maybe 10-15 sessions with Hugo and they were well worth it since I lost the majority of my college weight. When he left 24 Hour Fitness he mentioned that he started his own personal training and provided me with his number. Fast forward to 2017--I'm 30 now,  sprained my ankle 6 months ago and just been unmotivated and inconsistent with exercising at the gym. I finally decided to reunite with Hugo as my personal trainer again to get back into shape by getting leaner, reducing body fat percentage, and having a consistent gym regimen. <br><br>After contacting Hugo and getting a quick reply, I met up with him at The Matador Gym in Pasadena for my assessment where he asked me what my personal goals were, what I wanted to work on, how often I am able to incorporate exercising as well as the usual health questions. I told him I wanted to get leaner and have arms like Michonne from Walking Dead. During my assessment I realized how much strength and endurance I lost after not running for a few months or doing any strength training. Hugo was great in providing a variety of exercises that target your own personal goals as well as slowly getting me back into shape! He's knowledgeable in explaining the correct form/stance, range of motion, what muscles are being used for certain exercises, and breathing techniques in a friendly manner. There's always a variety of exercises Hugo introduces that never makes a session dull or repetitive. He also asks about your overall well being if a weight is too heavy, if you feel light headed, or how your knees feel and provides an explanation and/or makes necessary adjustments during the session (fewer reps or a little less weight on a bar). Hugo is just an overall positive guy who pushes you to do your best each session in the nicest way possible (which includes a high five lol). <br><br>After each session I felt like Hugo pushed me to my limits which left me satisfied that I did my  best at the gym yet still determined to improve. If you follow his recommended meal plan, consistently train with him 2-3 times a week, and do your recommended gym homework on between days you don't have personal training with him, then you will definitely see results whether it's immediate or within 2-4 weeks (everyone's body and training goals/meal plans are different). I've had several personal trainers before. Hugo is a trainer that not just wants you to achieve your goals, but help you achieve a well-rounded self.  At first, I wanted to see for myself what Hugo can do for me as a trainer that the other trainers I had could not. <br>       His workouts focus on good-form, preventing injury and achieving your weight loss goals. Hugo is very help full when I have a question from my meal plans to time management. Hugo really works with you to make sure your getting the best out of your workout &amp; that you are not slacking. <br>        I've been training with him for a couple of months now. I was a Master Trainer for 24 Hour Fitness for 2 years before becoming an independent Personal Fitness Trainer. In my opinion, working for a corporate gym is not ideal for a Personal Trainer that desires to do what is best for their clients.
