Jeff has been an absolute game-changer for me and my dog, Chloe, a pitbull with lots of energy and a strong personality. From the very first session, Jeff's knowledge, patience, and passion for dog training was clear. He didn't just train Chloe; he also trained me on how to understand her needs, communicate effectively, and build a stronger bond. Before working with Jeff, Chloe struggled with leash pulling, reacting to other dogs, and basic commands. Now, she listens so well, walks calmly on a leash, and is a much more confident and balanced dog. I am so impressed with the results and the care Jeff put into Chloe's progress. If you're looking for a trainer who genuinely loves what they do and will go above and beyond for your dog, I can't recommend Jeff enough! More...

Buyer Beware. I bought my doberman from Jeff back in 2017. After a month of noticeable health issues with the dog, we discovered that the 6 month old doberman had kidney issues. When we called the breeder back regarding these concerns, he said there was nothing he could do. More...

Dog Training

I did not hire this person after reading a few reviews. I always go with the majority which was not good. I felt uncomfortable when he asked me not to feed my dog the day I was suppose to meet with him. Starvation to submission? Nope!

When I expressed my concerns regarding my dog's behavior, Jeffrey was quick to boast about his 2-week board and train program. He was even quicker to inform me that I had to pay a $750 non-refundable deposit to hold a space for my dog. When we arrived at his location to see if it would be a good fit, he very briefly greeted me and did not seem interested in getting to know my dog that much. He did however talk my ear off about his home renovations and asked for my opinion about how everything looked. Not about his training facility. About his house. He then insisted that I pay the full $1500 fee before I even confirmed any decision. I thought I was being overdramatic about this first impression, so I paid the fee and left my dog for the program. I did not get any pictures or progress updates, and I asked if I could check up on my dog a few days into the program.I arrived for the checkup and immediately noticed my dog shaking in his crate, and skin missing from his nose. Jeffrey opened the crate and attached a leash to the prong collar. My dog excitedly ran to me and Jeffrey yanked on his leash with way too much force. Jeffrey also wanted to show me that he taught my dog how to sit (which he already knew). When my dog did not listen on the first command, Jeffrey pulled on his tail until he sat. I made a comment about not seeing any progress, to which Jeffrey responded that my dog will actually need an additional two weeks with him. Jeffrey then told me to practice the "heel" command while walking my dog through a set of cones, and made inappropriate comments to my boyfriend about my ethnicity. I ended up taking my dog home, not wanting to continue the program. Jeffrey did not offer a refund but said I could come back for another week if I wanted to since it was paid for already. As a result of this experience, my dog's anxiety worsened and he became very uninterested in food. In addition to the missing skin on his nose, he had blood marks around his neck. He only recently started getting better thanks to a lot of care, attention, and positive reinforcement. I would not recommend Jeffrey at Von Miller Kennels. He's a money-hungry creep who does not have the knowledge or skill set to properly train animals. More...

Could not be happier. This has been a great experience so far. I have taken my Australian Shepherd to train with Jeff the past few weeks and have noticed such a difference in My dogs behavior. He has had reactivity issues he has been working on and we were able to take him into stores this week and it went amazing!! The amount of progress made in such little time already has been so wonderful for our dog. We’re looking forward to where we go from here. More...

Firstly, we did not get the pup we asked for. This puppy is HIGHLY AGGRESSIVE. We told him about our other two Shepards, and that they mingle with our free range chicken flock to keep fox at bay, even sending pictures. He clearly was not listening, had no recollection of our other dogs, or the pictures that were sent. He was so busy talking about his job, and not the business at hand. Our puppy came to us with SEVERE DAMAGE TO HIS EAR, which had obviously been glued together, and we didn't see just how bad it was, nearly 1/2" tear. When we brought that to Jeff's attention he blamed the transporter who drove our puppy up to Montana. Jeff sounded incensed over the injury saying, "this was totally avoidable, should never have happened". Yet, the only one between the two that would converse with us about it was the transporter. She has said that Jeff also had some inconsistencies with her, and would no longer be transporting for him in the future. The puppy will be extensively trained starting next week, all the way through scent titling. Be warned, Jeff has no integrity. More...

I have been trying to get my $1500 deposit back from Jeff after I found another place that is better for my dog. I met with Jeff for a consult back on June 12. After the end of our consult, I gave Jeff a $1500 check deposit "to hold a spot - because [Jeff] is booking out quickly...", the standard sales pitch. I never signed a contract and we never set a specific date. Then about a week later I had a consult with another company that would not keep my dog in a crate all day (and only out for training). I sent an email to Jeff (Northshore K-9/Vonmiller Kennels) on June 27 requesting a refund of my deposit, less the consult fee, and then sent a follow up text on July 7 asking when I should expect my refund. All I get is radio silence from this guy. I don't understand how an officer of the law thinks it's okay to keep my deposit - isn't that against the law-especially since no contract was signed? Jeff, you need to do the honorable thing and refund money you have not earned. More...

Hi Pam, It is clearly stated on our websight that deposits are non refundable ! You also filled out a card for the board and train that is in your hand writing. As far as the laws of Illinois a verbal contract is just as binding as a a signed contract and non refundable as well you gave a deposit for this contract which shows intent! I told you I could start the board and train the second week of July and as a result had to turn other customers away for that frame of time that it would take to finish your dog. Also your dog would not of been in a crate all day as we keep the dogs very stimulated during the day and you could of also discussed this with me and I could of easily had your dog in a large run if that was your choice which you never even bothered to mention to me ! I’m sorry your dissatisfied with your decision to forfeit your deposit but I will meet you half way and return half of your deposit which I am not obligated to do as far as the laws state.

Thank you Jeff!! We dropped our 10 month old Cane Corso, Atlas for a 2 week board/train. We came back to a more disciplined and social dog. He deals better with other dogs and people without having a bad stranger anxiety attack. The facility is excellent and alot of room (large fenced in open grass yard) for dogs to run and play. Jeff took it upon himself to make sure Atlas was well taken cared of and communicated with us regularly on his progress and even face timing us to show progress. Great customer service!! More...

Although I did not use VonMiller because I didn't realize how much dog training cost. I'm trying to think of the gentleman's name but he is in the picture below. He was most gracious, answered all my questions, gave me a few free tips and if it cost less and also a little closer to my home I would go to him in a heartbeat. Kind, understanding and I'd surely trust my puppy to him. Thanks for contacting me Bark - I wanted the world to know that I think VonMiller Kennels is one to go to if it is headed by this man. I'm very happy I brought my 1 year old in for training at VonMiller Kennels. Jeffrey Miller trained my little ladies' man Ben G to learn multiple commands, coming when he hears his name from a distance & sitting in place too. I was very impressed & wowed to see Ben G learning so quickly from the illustrative training lessons. Jeffrey assured me I have a confident boy able to learn with the help of his great training, treat + collar advice & patience. Before training.. Ben G wouldn't back off the ladies if I called his name with a foghorn or even sit for more than half of a second. The lessons with the help of a knowledgeable, confident voice in an organized setting & answers to all my annoying questions helped entirely. Ben G now comes when I call his name and even sits for his little pictures until I say "& let's go!"  Thanks a trillion! From Ben G&Jackie More...

Our 4 year old German Shepherd, Sherman did a 6 week board-and-train here with Jeff and WOW were we impressed with what he was able to accomplish during that time! Sherman had been having trouble with other dogs, anxiety that was at times uncontrollable, and fear and anxiety around water. After less than 2 weeks, Jeff had him relaxed right next to another German Shepherd who also had issued being calm around other dogs and jumping in the lake to swim out to me. We were SHOCKED at the progress he had made in such a short period of time. Sherman has been home with us for a little over a week now and we have been able to maintain his skills with Jeff's instructions and Sherman is so much happier! We can walk by other dogs on the street and he barely pays them any mind where as perviously he would have knocked us over.We have had several other trainers work with Sherman and no one has come close to achieving the success that Jeff has. His gentle approach to training makes your dog fall in love with him and actually WANT to please him/you rather than fear based training.Thank you Jeff for everything!!! More...

Jeff was very patient and good with both our dogs. They are already behaving better.

23 August 2020

Our family decided to get a rottweiler puppy, with that decision also came the decision that we would send the pup off to training. This was important to us for many reasons, but our 2 young kids (3 & 9) as well as ourselves having control of this soon to be big guy was one of the top reasons! We welcomed Titan to our family in Aug 2019, and immediately began researching various trainers. We were prepared to send Titan as far as we needed to for the right fit. To our surprise we found Jeff Miller who was just a 15min drive from us. We went to meet Jeff and had an instant comfort upon walking onto his property and meeting him.You could instantly feel the true love he has for the dogs, and took so much time evaluating Titan to determine if he would be a great fit for Titan and vice-versa. Right there we just knew he and his team would be amazing! A few weeks later space opened up and Titan was welcomed into his facility and stayed for about 6wks. Jeff advised that I (the wife/Mom) would be the best family member to come in weekly to work one-on-one with Titan and himself. He explained I was the best fit because I would be home with him more, and Titan needed to see me as the pack leader.2-3wks into training I began going to Jeff's facility 1-3 times per week to work with him, observe them, and learn everything I needed to know so that we could apply the training at home. The time Jeff puts into not only your dog, but you as the human is incredible. He is one of a kind!Training was amazing, and we continue to work hard at home implementing all Titan was taught. We have an awesome dog who just turned a year that we can walk around the block with no pulling. He stays by our side, lays down when a dog walks past without even one bark.Jeff is always checking in with us, and is always a phone call away for any question or thought that comes up.The price you pay is beyond worth not only the initial training, but the life-long support you will get from Jeff! Hands down the best breeding and training facility around. Jeff Miller is very passionate and knowledgeable about what he does. He's transparent about the health and behavior of his dogs, their working/breeding history, his training methods, and everything else. Not only was I impressed with his dogs, but also with his integrity. He doesn't sacrifice their health or temperament for superficial traits like so many other breeders do. He's doesn't breed dogs to "show and sell", he breeds them for purpose. Whether it's performing in the field as protection dogs, service dogs, or just being the perfect family guardian, his dogs can do it all.The GSD pup we got from him almost a year ago has been so wonderful, and our family couldn't be happier. He has high drive, but not hyperactivity. He's eager to please and easy to train. He's alert but not aggressive or fearful. He's loving but not bratty. He LOVES to play, and loves to be engaged with his humans. In short, he's everything you want in a family dog. Gorgeous and healthy to! Jeff has been a fantastic resource along the way, and he's very quick to respond with anything we need help with. It's wonderful to have a breeder/trainer that wants to be engaged with owners in the long-run, not just to make a quick buck. We look forward to many more years of fun and affection from our furry guardian. What else can I say? Great facility, great owner, great services, great dogs. Definitely recommend for any reason. Defiantly love working with the dogs. Major passion being able to develop and learn behaviors.

Was in the army and had a army dog, got to spend a lot of time with him. Lots of training hours and got lots of experience from that training alone. Push to continue training certified professionals and even home dog.

My experience is enough to fill your ears with awes! I am great with people because I am great with dogs! Dogs like me and the people will very much learn a little something.

No, we can consult via phone but I prefer in person.
