My family loves barbecue, so we try to find the best in every town we visit.Smugglers hit a home run with fun, casual atmosphere and local vibe. The owner chatted to my husband about mountain bikes and trails. You order at the counter and they call you when it's ready. We had a mouth-watering beef brisket and full-rack pork ribs with sides of Mac 'n cheese, coleslaw, and cornbread; re: sauces we choose Carolina (vinegar base) for the beef and classic red for the ribs. We enjoyed lemonade and root beer from the adjoining People's Soda Co. tasting room. My daughter also enjoyed a very tasty and affordable milkshake.

My husband and I absolutely LOVE La Casa Ouzeria. They have some of the best food in the entire Penticton area and have the best service. Minas and Lia are two of the (grown) children and work in the restaurant. We've had the opportunity and pleasure to eat in their restaurant four times during our two visits to Penticton for Ironman. We found the restaurant in 2011 when we volunteered for Ironman Canada. We ate Pastitsio and hummus w/ pita on our first visit last year. Lia was our server and was fantastic! The Pastitsio consists of penne pasta with a bechamel sauce and is layered with a meat sauce and feta cheese. It's baked in the oven, so it has a crispy top layer. Delicious! The pita is thick and chewy. We ate there a second time that trip because the food was so amazing. The second time around, we both ordered some sort of pasta dish. I think we had alfredo with chicken and veggies tossed in. The pasta tasted fresh (not dry). Perfection. Lia gave us baklava and tiramisu on the house. I can only speak to the baklava. Best baklava I have ever had. It's flaky, buttery, sweet. So decadent. So rich. For the past year, I have been craving the baklava and pastitsio. We came back this year to compete in Ironman Canada. Getting to the restaurant before they closed at 10pm was more motivation to finish the race faster! I remember running by the restaurant on my way to finish thinking how good dinner was going to taste. After corralling through the athlete area, getting a post-race massage and gathering our bikes and gear bags, we headed over to Casa Ouzeria. We made it at 9:48pm. Minas said they just turned off the appliances in the kitchen, but he was still able to serve us dinner! He sat us and was our personal server. It was phenomenal. He served us rolls with balsamic and olive oil. We happily ate our pastitsio and Greek salad. Yum! We love this place so much that we went back Monday night (second night in a row). My husband ate the pastitsio again. I ordered the garlic prawns. It consisted of six grilled prawns on a bed of rice with half a roasted potato and seasonal veggies. The shrimp/prawns came with a garlic butter sauce. I forgot to use it until the very end. That garlic butter sauce was the best part of the plate. It definitely added great flavor to the shrimp and rice. Veggies were fresh, potato was seasoned and crisp on the outside and the shrimp was tasty! I hardly ever eat shrimp, so I figured I should order some while I'm on vacation. Lia was a server that second night. She really gets to know her customers. When she came up to our table, she recognized us from the year before. She was like, "Oh my goodness! How are you guys?" Their entire family is so welcoming and kind. We really appreciate their hospitality and kindness. Minas, Lia and the rest of the Portalakis, we will be back again! To everyone else who lives in or is visiting Penticton, go eat at La Casa Ouzeria!

Another first to review - yelp needs more folks from the BC Interior!I was a bit apprehensive coming here due to the negative comments on TripAdvisor.  I was worried for no reason!I booked into a business class room which I totally recommend - it was $189/night on the long weekend.  It's about 40 dollars more a night from the standard and totally worth it.  I had a king room with a lake view.  Wi-fi internet is free in the business room ($5 fee if in a regular room).  Business rooms also have the king bed option, complimentary bottled water and turn down service which includes a cookie and apple before you go to bed - how can you go wrong with a chocolate chip cookie  Complimentary breakfast also included at the Hooded Merganser resto on site - lovely water views.  The extras are totally worth the additional money IMHO.I didn't use the pool or amenities so can't comment on those.Tripadvisor has a lot of negative noise reviews so I don't know if I just lucked out or if it's only a problem during grad season.  No issue with noise for me (well, the heating unit is a bit noisy but most of the older hotels are) and smooth check-in and check-out.  I came in at the same time as the pilots from my flight and this is the hotel they use as well - the check-in person said that they are always booked in the "quiet" part of the hotel, so might be worth asking for if you're staying on a party night.Only downside for me is the bed - the mattress isn't that great but I've definitely slept in worse.  Overall a nice stay.

Hands down one of the best dining experiences of my life; this restaurant is certainly one of the gems that the Okanagan has to offer.  Upon arriving, we were seated quickly despite not having reservation.  The table was formally set and glasses of water appeared without us having to request.  The menu consists of a good selection of appetizers, many pastas, and some mains.  There's also a small section termed the chef's specials, which should not be overlooked.  The wine menu was extensive and offered a variety of fine bottles as well as by the glass choices.  To start we ordered several green salads and a homemade foccacia served with brie, roasted garlic, and cranberry chutney.  The roasted garlic was divine, it's tanginess and bite perfectly complement by the creamy, rich cheese and the sweet chutney.  It was incredible, and we all dove in.For dinner, my family ordered a Mediterranean chicken fettuchini, a spaghetti marinara, and a veal lasagna.  They were apparently all very nicely done.  I ordered the Osso Buco with red wine and tomatoes from the chef' specials.  It defied words.  Rich, dark meat cooked in a flavourful sauce until it was so tender that I barely needed to touch it with my fork, before it separated into pieces. The sauce was very thick, and coated the entire piece.  On the side, there were crisp asparagus with grated Parmesan and delicious rosemary potatoes.  This was one of the better meals that I have had in my life. For dessert, my brother and I split the tiramisu.  Incredibly delicious as well... my only complaint was that I was sharing.  The décor of the restaurant was very relaxing and the music highly appropriate for an Italian restaurant.  Our waiter was very eager to help and brought everything out swiftly.  When I asked about butter and cream in the sauces, he swiftly offered a list of which dishes were not heavy on either.  During dessert, he ordered an extra pot of coffee so that he could refill our mugs.So... in conclusion, incredible!  I would go back over and over and over again.  I only wish it weren't quite so far away.

A huge thank you to Hoodoo Adventure Company for a fantastic afternoon of kayaking, wine tasting and picnicking. The excursion was booked as part of our 20th anniversary celebration. We were hoping to do something special and were not disappointed. A huge shout out goes to our guide, Julian. From the moment the boats were on the water we knew we were in good hands. He was very attentive, knowledgeable, and informally formal. He considered our personal preferences when choosing wineries to visit and invoked a very casual and relaxed ambience. It was a pleasure to have him lead our adventure. The picnic was delicious, the wine tasting fantastic, and the kayaking relaxing. Finally a huge thank you to the owner Mike for offering such a lovely adventure and having such amazing staff. It was a pleasure meeting you.
