I am an experienced deejay in multiple genres and venues. I've played weddings, fundraisers, birthday parties, corporate events, bat mitzvahs and am also experienced in plating clubs, lounges, larger music productions and have been a headlining musician for multiple special events. For the private events I've done I make a special point to meet in person with my clients for a discovery process which allows me to gather their needs and get a feel for what they expect of me.
We are a family friendly wedding and event DJ company. We have thousands of songs from many genres over the last 60 years but you will never hear the F bomb or other profanity come through our speakers. I generally like to play a mix of very well known songs from a variety of genres but will take direction from you as to what, if any, you want me to emphasize or not play. If you want a LOT of rap I am probably NOT your guy. It's very difficult to find enough family friendly rap music to do an event. I have many of the big rap hits from years past like Yeah by Usher and Low by Flo Rida. I just don't have a LOT of rap. Before I commit to DJ a gig, I really like to chat with the potential client on the phone for a few minutes to see if we are a good fit. I won't take the job if I don't think I can do a great job and make the client happy. I am happy to emcee any event as well as provide a wireless microphone and multi-unit dance light at no charge. We are fully insured.
Every event is different. Different people with different tastes and different expectations. First thing I do is make sure I am the right DJ for you. Not every DJ is right for every event. Before hiring me, we will talk and will ask each other questions to make sure this is a good fit. If I am not the right guy for what you are looking for I will let you know right away. I won't take the gig unless I am very confident I can make you happy.
The other thing worth mentioning is the fact that I don't show up with a pre-made playlist of music. I build a playlist onsite based on our previous conversations and on what I can see. For instance if I show up to a wedding and see a lot of cowboy hats and boots, I will probably play more country than I normally would. Then, as the night progresses, I see what works to get people on the dance floor and what doesn't, and I make changes accordingly.
My style is simple and fun. I don't 'scratch' or alter the music when I play it. I think more people enjoy dancing to great songs the way they were originally recorded and don't want to hear a DJ 'showing off'.
I have the greatest job in the world because I am able to make people happy by playing great music. I am thrilled when I can help make a bride's dream of a magical wedding and reception come true. I am ecstatic when at a corporate Christmas party I turn what would have been a hum-drum get together into an outright party. I take great satisfaction when students come up to me during a school prom and thank me for doing a great job. I ask, who WOULDN'T love to do this?
This is a bit of tongue in cheek answer to this question. God made me do it. I'll explain. About 20 years ago my church asked me if I could start playing the music at the youth dances they held a couple times a year. I knew they would wouldn't want songs that were inappropriate for youth played at those dances so I spent several months reading lyrics and categorizing music by how danceable it was, how 'clean' it was, and a variety of other factors. After putting all that effort into that I began to wonder if there would be a market for a DJ service that was family friendly. I guess after 20 years of doing this the answer is a most definite "yes".
There are three things I think that really make me stand out from other DJs. First is communication. Good communication prevents mistakes and helps things run smoother with less stress. Before we even sign a contract I will make sure I have a clear understanding of what you are expecting in a DJ and that I can fulfill that expectation otherwise I won't take the job.
I'll use weddings as an example. At weddings I don't play songs about breaking up, cheating on your spouse, etc. I know it sounds silly but most DJs don't even think about something like that.
Second, I work very hard to keep the music family friendly. I read lyrics and categorize accordingly. I purchase special 'radio edits' of today's hits (the cleaner versions that are allowed to be played on the radio) to keep things clean and fun.
Third is the music itself. Like just about every other DJ out there I have thousands of songs available from many genres spanning 70+ years. Where I think I stand out is WHAT I play depending on the type of the event.
