We hired Nikki to do our wedding photographer and it was one of the best decisions we made for the wedding. Ben and I were a bit hesitant to do an engagement shoot as we aren’t very good at public affection however Nikki made us feel at ease and those photos were incredible and we looked so relaxed. I love the Wedding cake, no seriously, I love the people. I love that a Wedding is a happy occasion, everyone is dressed in their best outfits, family being together that haven't seen each other for a while. I know it sounds cheesy but it really is, the people that make a Wedding. I love being part of it with my camera, capturing as many memories as possible.
I also love that 90% of my work is through recommendations. I love it when someone enquiries and says "You've been recommended." One of my first Weddings has got me 7 other Weddings. I'm proud of that! For a job I fell into it has grown into something I never imagined possible.
I fell into Wedding photography 8 years ago. My dad realised I had a natural talent. So when he was talking to a client he rang me up and said "Michelle I've booked you your first Wedding." He was proud as punch, I was mortified. I wasn't thinking of photographing Weddings, I didn't even have a business name. Anyway I did it, the couple were so happy with the photos they paid me extra!
Let me tell you about the next story! My Dad was talking to a man at a party on Bournemouth beach, he called me over and said "Michelle, this is Tony and his daughter is getting married." Oh no, here we go again! So I gave him my number, arranged a meeting with his daughter and fiancé. They came along with a big Wedding folder and said "My Wedding magazine says to ask your photographer to make you laugh." I burst out laughing, they were laughing. The Wedding consultation was a success. They were having a big Wedding with 8 bridesmaids! No pressure! I'm happy to say it went really well. I am now Godmother to their 2 children.
Work just kept coming in, my Dad also got me a studio job, that's another story! I had my full time job that I had done for 15 years, plus Weddings at weekends. I was happy. Then life changed, well my thoughts on life did! I had 2 children born close together, that's when I decided to have a year off, I left my job of 15 years, took the time to enjoy my children, I wouldn't get that time back. I became a stay at home Mum, of course I did small jobs as and when, I honoured all Weddings I had booked I just didn't book anymore, it was hard saying no to work I loved. But then an old school friend rang me and had been let down last minute by her Wedding photographer. It was a big London Wedding, of course I did it. I was buzzing on the day, how I'd missed it, the getting ready photos, exchanging vows, the smiles, the speeches, the cake and first dance. Wow the fire was still there in me burning! But I remained true to my word, we moved house, enjoyed the children, enjoyed life's little moments. The New Year came and so did I back with a bang! Infact that New Years Eve I photographed a huge wedding with 12 bridesmaids! I knew that the next morning I was updating my website to say Back in Business!
So there is some history about me and how I have come to this point. My children and my future inspire me, I no longer work 9-5, I work around my children. Can I call it work? I do what I love.
