Choosing the right Magician

How much is a Magician?

So, how much does a magician cost for a birthday party? Do they charge more for certain events? A magician isn’t an everyday service so it can be hard to know what costs to expect.

There is no standard price and it can vary hugely depending on the skills, availability, and location of the magician in question.

Types of Magician

  • Sleight of hand - These sorts of magicians rely a lot on card tricks and the sort of magic tricks you would expect in a small party environment rather than on a big scale with a stage and lots of props.
  • Illusionists - Think of the sort of shows that leave you wondering “how did they do that?”. “Sawing” an assistant in half is an example of an illusion. They often have big stage setups.
  • Children’s Magician - Nothing too heavy. These are the sort of magicians that are fantastic for children’s parties, they tend to have a good rapport with children and plenty of fun and light-hearted tricks. The adults might work out the tricks, but most children will be spellbound.
  • Comedy Magician - Half stand-up comedian, half magician, these are a great choice for getting the guests at a party or wedding involved and having a laugh while being wowed!

How do I check the Magician’s credentials?

Magicians come from a variety of backgrounds, so it can be hard to check their credentials. However, there are a number of different performance guilds as well as prestigious membership clubs such as The Magic Circle. A true magic specialist will probably have a membership to these sorts of organisations so keep an eye out for those who advertise that they are part of a magician’s guild.

In the modern age, you can check a lot about the magician before you employ their services. For example, you can check if they have a YouTube page where you might even be able to watch their magic show and see them in action. Online reviews and testimonials are also a very good way to check that other customers vouch for their skills.

‘21 Certificate of Excellence

Adam Keisner is a London based, award winning Close-Up Magician and Sleight of Hand Artist specialising in Close-Up Magic with cards, coins, Rubik’s Cubes and borrowed objects. Bank notes, bottles, cutlery, finger rings, glasses, mobile phones, napkins, pens, rubber bands, wrist watches (stolen but returned) and anything else that happens to be lying around. No rabbits, no doves. Basically common familiar objects, which can always be examined pr or, during and after the show. Booking a good Close-Up Magician adds a unique form of entertain- ment to any social event, helping to break uneasy silences and allowing your guests to interact. It’s also a very practical form of entertainment; as a one man act with a huge repertoire of magic all my props are self contained in my pockets or borrowed, I’m ready to go anywhere at anytime throughout your event and I don't require a specific performing area so I can stop and start at a moments notice.

How long have you been interested in magic?

25 Years and counting, I use to watch Paul Daniels as child and got hooked. I had no idea how any of this was possible so curiosity got the better of me.

Take us through your show – what can we expect?

I perform Close-Up Magic whether guests are seated or standing I entertain accordingly. I’d mix and mingle amongst small groups 2,3-4+ guests at a time. If people are sat I engage in Table Magic.
I've experience performing for kids too, please see my profile photos.

I specialise in Close-Up, sleight of hand Magic with cards, coins, Rubik's cubes and borrowed objects. Finger rings, bank notes, pens, mobile phones, watches, rubber bands, napkins, bottles, glasses and cutlery. No rabbits. No doves.

Basically common familiar objects, which can always be examined prior, during and after the show.

What do you love most about your job?

The fact that actually love my job and I always meet different people in different locations all over the world.

Why should our clients choose you?

As a full time pro with over sixteen years experience as an entertainer, performing magic is my full time job. Sixty percent of my work comes from repeat bookings. I’ve won awards for performing magic from The Magic Circle and the annual International Magic Convention. I’m always on the hunt for new magic effects to advance my repertoire and I will fool you but I’ll be nice about it at the same time, that’s guaranteed. Above all it’s my living and what I love doing.

What inspired you to start your own business?

I've always wanted to work for myself and performing magic is basically show-business, I'm constantly working on my show, adding new tricks etc and I love the business side of it too. I met a Magician at a wedding when I was 15 and I got chatting to him, he was a really nice guy and I wish I could remember his name or what he looked like but he got me thinking if he made a living from performing then it must be a viable thing.

Franco was the perfect entertainer for my husband’s 50th birthday party. From the moment he arrived he engaged with the guests as though he was one of us. His magic, skills, sleight of hand and presentation were amazing. His time with us was enjoyed by each and every guest and talked about endlessly. I would highly recommend Franco at any event.

Cavan came to our house for a small 40th birthday party, he was a great hit with young and old guests alike. His card tricks were completely mind boggling! His close up magic was exactly what I had asked for and he moved round the party with great ease. I would 100% recommend him. Thanks Cavan!
