It's all about the grade you need to progress to the future you want - whether that is getting Grade 4 at GCSE to never have to do English again, get Grade 6 to apply to Russell Group universities or Grade 9 to make English match all your other predicted grades. At A level, the number of marks between grades can be very low - 9 marks between a C and an A* with OCR - so making sure you get every mark you can is vital. I encourage my students to develop a professional, pragmatic approach to English and build their confidence so they can achieve their goals. I'm new to Bark, so Bark reviews yet, but here is a reference from a GCSE English student and a parent that I recieved recently. Student review: 'Lucy has brought my grade from a 6 to a 9 in 6 months. Analysis of texts is clear and simple with her and she can make a hard text feel very easy, and the results show this. She methodically focuses on specific parts of the syllabus so after a while, you will have a complete understanding of everything you have to do in the exam. When she sets homework, we analyse it in detail in the next lesson once it has been done.' Parent for above student: 'I can add that your deep knowledge of the subject is palpable and your passion for the language is contagious. You have been able to find the right communication channel with [the student] (his passion for cars!) to make him feel involved and interested in the lesson. He has definitely grown in confidence and he tries his best to follow your advice when analysing a text or writing an essay. I can only highly recommend you to any students, even the more reluctant ones.'

What do you love most about your job?

Helping students succeed. The fact that I have had a successful career before becoming a teacher means that I don't approach my subject expecting my students to love it - I'm not here to make them think Shakespeare is fabulous, I'm here to help them get a better grade. I of course think Shakespeare is fabulous - but I'm an English teacher, I would, wouldn't I?

What inspired you to start your own business?

I started tutoring in 2013, which I enjoyed so much I did a teaching qualification, a PGCE. My disability led me to online tutoring, where I can do the work I love the most - helping students do better.

Why should our clients choose you?

I am very committed to my students success. Each session is bespoke to the individual student. School work comes first and I am realistic about how much time my students really have to work on English & I have developed some quick ways for them to increase their marks in the higher mark questions, particularly the writing section of English Language GCSE.

Can you provide your services online or remotely? If so, please add details.

I've been providing my services online via Skype or zoom since 2017. I am happy to use whichever one is preferred. Usually I create a shared Google drive which students and their parents can both access to store texts and work.

What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?

I am 100% online, so Covid safety practices such as wiping down surfaces are irrelevant.
