The Full Design Service-
Stage 1 Design- At our initial meeting we will look at the property together and listen to your requirements. You will look through some past design projects in our Portfolio. We'll discuss your preferable styling and your ideas. Then we can assess the Design Fee Proposal for your project and write-up a detailed description of the design work involved. A Design Contract is drawn-up, with our Terms and Conditions, which is sent to you. This will be a detailed description of your design project. When the Design Fee Proposal is acceptedsigned and Acceptance Form returned, to Diana Arnold Design with a deposit, to secure our time for you, we can start to commence with your new design project.
We will meet-up or have a Zoom meeting and take a detailed Project Brief. This is an important record of a Clients needs, favoured styling, the uses and functions of the space we're designing. We listen to our Client's carefully and then start to develop our design scheme. Bringing in new ideas and creative inspiration, to enhance the project, with a Designer's eye for the potential of the space.
The Flow Chart- We produce a Flow Chart so you can see how the design process develops in stages, including where design decisions are due and funds are payable.
The Survey- We arrange for a Survey to be completed, with a Survey Plan, (by others, an additional cost), or we can provide the Survey as part of our service, depending on the complexity of the site or building. Then the Concept Design process begins with the sketch Concept Layout. The design concept is also illustrated in Mood Boards, for discussion. We'll have a meeting and to discuss the initial Concept Design. Then after this we'll be able to finalise the concept into a final detailed General Arrangement Plan. Any revisions are made and the new design proposal is illustrated with final Mood Boards. These include photos of new items, together with samples of the finishes, accessories and specifications of electrical/ technical items. We'll meet up again and discuss our final Mood Boards and the General Arrangement Plan, these are then signed-off as approved by our Client.
Stage 2- Any detailed Construction Drawings needed, for bespoke new items, are now drawn-up. Lighting and power design is completed and Electrical Layout Plans may be required, at this stage. Rooms such as Kitchens, Utility, Offices and Bathrooms will usually require more detailed drawings. These additional drawings form part of the Design Contract.
An Excel Project Speadsheet Schedule is created for the project. This will have a front page, listing all new items to be bought for the project, showing the cost of each item and a total cost. Then there will be a page for details of each individual item to be purchased, including accessories and art. All the specifications are listed together with costing, expected delivery dates and supplier details, plus a final total sum for purchases.
Tendering- We can send the drawings, with the Contract, plus the Specifications Scope of Works documentation out to Tender. We then obtain estimates for the construction from Builders / or Decorators. They will then provide estimates and set the timeframe and the start date of the project. At the start we'll meet-up with them on site, to go through the drawings together with you, as you will choose who to employ for the project.
Procurement - If required we can order new items for our Clients, these will be chosen from the best suppliers.
Setting Out- We can produce Setting-out Plans to help tradesmen on site accurately set-out the design.
Monitoring- We can monitor the project for our Clients and draw-up snagging lists as needed, during the Building or Decoration Phase - This involves monitoring on site, on a weekly basis or as required. So helping to provide our Clients to achieve a seamless build.
Maintenance Schedules- these can be prepared as required, helping to keep the design looking fabulous.
Other Services:
The Concept Design Service - This is a shorter design service for hands-on clients, who would like concept design direction only, with a proposed Sketch Concept Plan and a Mood Board.
The Design Consultation Service- This design service includes meeting you, with a portfolio of design projects. We discuss some new design ideas, then following this, we will send you a either a Design Report, or a Sketch Plan, or a MoodBoard, as required. This is based on a couple of days of design work only, to inspire Clients with some professional direction.
The First Design Meeting with Portfolio- We meet-up on site and listen to your ideas then go through some of our design projects. We will discuss your needs and preferences, in a 1 hour meeting. This is charged (£40), though if you then request a full Stage 1 or Stage 1 & 2 Design Sevice, or a Concept Design Service, this is then deducted from the Design Fee.
I like many styles of design, good design should be timeless. Currently I particularly like the 1950's vibe and minimal contemporary design, though I'm always happy to fit in with the Client's preferences.
I love to meet new Clients, listening to there ideas and working for returning Clients. I enjoy the creative design process and prefer to devote to each project the time it deserves. A successful design and happy Clients are very rewarding.
Having moved away from London, I've been inspired to work directly with Clients rather than alongside companies. As they often require the designer to work at such speed, there is really not much time for creativity or proper design development. It offers flexibility, so working independently suits both myself and the Clients.
A broad spectrum of design experience is valuable. So working in many fields of design and types of project, at Diana Arnold Design, is quite unusual. We are devoted to our projects and our Clients. We give good attention to detail and spend time researching suitable ideas, allowing the project the time it deserves. So every individual project is created as a unique scheme.
Yes I'm happy to work via Zoom and the phone with Clients. When meeting up outside, I always will have a mask and / or visor and respect the necessary distance, for Covid safety. I'm happy to recieve photos from Clients, Pinterest images, their sketches, dimensions, project image ideas and notes.
It's good to meet up, but this is also fine on Zoom. When meeting up outside, I always will have a mask and / or visor and respect the necessary distance, for Covid safety. Instead of writing notes, we'll record what's said for a more accurate record and this allows for shorter meetings.
