It may be that you are depressed; bereaved; are experiencing difficulties at work; suffering from anxiety based issues or you may simply have an important decision to make etc. Attending counselling doesn't mean you are a "nut case" nor that you are "mental," merely that there is something going on for which you would benefit from some space and time in which to process what is happening. Trained as an integrative counsellor, I am qualified with an M.A. Counselling; a level 4 qualification in counselling children and am a registered member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP). I decided to set up Amadea Counselling in the early part of 2017 after a number of years as senior counsellor at a local charity. I work one-to-one with people in the way that suits them most beneficially. My only aim is to build a therapeutic relationship so that you have that safe space to explore what is happening in your life. As well as counselling adults using a combination of Psychodynamic, CBT, Systemic and Person Centred skills, I have specialisms in working with children; individuals with special educational needs or those on the autistic spectrum; and in working with creative media. I work under the umbrella of the BACP which means that you can expect confidentiality and a full professional service. I have a full DBS (disclosure and barring service certificate) which I am happy to show you during your assessment session, along with evidence of my qualifications if you feel that this would enable you to feel more secure in the therapy you are to receive. In order to give people an opportunity of relative anonymity, I am based in the Churchill Square on the Kings Hill business estate. Clients can come for sessions, without the need to 'sign in' at reception first. Therefore, with a huge variety of businesses within the offices, clients are able to attend without the worry about what other people may think about their need for therapy. Issues which we can work on during sessions include: Abuse, addictions, anger management, anxiety, autistic spectrum behaviours, body image issues, bereavement and grief, chronic pain or illness, childhood related issues, depression, disabilities and their affects, domestic violence, eating disorders, low confidence/ self esteem, obsessive compulsive disorder, relationship issues, self-harm, stress, trauma. ( by no means is this an exclusive list!)
I love my job because I feel it is so rewarding. It is so humbling that my clients trust me with their innermost thoughts and feelings, I feel very honoured that I am allowed to walk alongside them for part of their journey.
I have people come to me who sit in reception hunched over, barely able to give eye contact because their circumstances leave them feeling so low. After a period of time (for some 12 sessions, for others a couple of years or any number of sessions in between) during which we will have collaboratively worked through issues, no matter how difficult; I then witness those same clients who are able to give eye contact, holding themselves up straight and smile. Clients feel so much better about themselves once they have had the space to express exactly how they feel without fear of offending someone, or of someone correcting them . Counselling provides the opportunity for clients to explore and at least begin to understand their emotions and reactions to their situation even if between us we are not actually able to change the circumstances themselves.
In honesty, I began Amadea Counselling because I knew that I had so much I could give to help those who are vulnerable. I found the idea of setting up on my own a really daunting prospect at first however, I have not looked back Jenny now works with me and our goal is to be able to offer affordable counselling to all. There appears to be a huge gap in the market, either 6-8 sessions for free/private counselling, which is inaccesible to many. Jenny and I are looking at ways in which we can gain funding in order to provide a solution for that gap.....watch this space!
Amadea provides you with a safe-space where you can be yourself without fear of judgement. No emotion is a wrong emotion when in this counselling environment, no matter what your circumstance; neither is anything you say incorrect, inappropriate etc. It doesn't matter who you are, or what your background is, you will be accepted and welcomed at Amadea for as long as it takes for you to feel that you are in a better place.
Yes I am able to provide online counselling via Google Meet, WhatsApp, Microsoft Teams /Skype, , Facebook Messenger etc.
Clients coming to the office will have a temperature check in reception. You will be asked to use sanitiser upon entry into the office. Your Counsellor will wear through the session if you would like us to; chair arms & items touched during the session will be cleaned with disinfectant.
