I was very pleased with the service I received from Interdiy. We needed permission for addition of a single storey extension to our existing house and as such needed detailed scale plans and (due to the size of our proposed extension,) a block plan and layout plan also.
I contacted James at Interdiy, amongst other similar businesses, and I must say he was the most helpful out of them all and actually the best value for money too. He created my finalised drawings very quickly and after a couple of amendments they were ready for submission to our Local Authority within around a week from my initial call. I’m pleased to say my extension is now finished and looking wonderful!
I’d definitely recommend. Thanks James.

How can someone tell if their Garage is suitable for conversion?
Traditional Roofs — These are generally made up from a series of rafters and purlins, spanning between load bearing walls. These roofs are less complicated to convert than Trussed Rafter Roofs. However, beams are often required to provide support to the new floor structure and the existing purlins. Loft head room 2.2 to 2.4m A Structural Engineer’s design will be required for all but the simplest.
Trussed Rafter Roofs — These have been common since the 1970s and roofs of this type are difficult to convert. Roof trusses are complex pieces of engineering and they should not be altered without the advice of a structural engineer. When converting this type of roof it is common for a series of beams to be installed to provide support to the new floor and to strengthen the rafters. This allows the bracing sections of the trusses to be cut out to create a clear floor area. Loft head room 2.4 to 2.6m
Run us through the different stages of the Garage conversion process - what's involved?
1) Depending on the use, would depend if you can carry out the conversion under Permitted Development .
2) Building regulation approval would be required.
3) Check foundations
4) New floor
5) Warm roof in most cases.
6) Upgrade and insulate walls.
7) Fire safty approved document B Volume 1 for dwellings
How can someone tell if their loft is suitable for conversion?
1. Height — Is there enough height within your loft? Note the minimum height for a traditional roof is 2.2 to 2.4 meters and the minimum height for a modern trussed roof is 2.4 to 2.6 meters.
2. Space — Is the loft space large enough to provide a usable room?
Run us through the different stages in the loft conversion process - what’s involved?
1) If in any doubt on loft sizes and construction. Consult a structural engineer and have it checked.
2) New support posts under the purlins to support roof. (This is call an Ashlar dwarf wall)
2) Cut away existing roof trusses to maximize space.
3) Size any steelwork.
4) Stiffen existing floor.
5) New stairs
6) Fire safty approved document B Volume 1 for dwellings

What inspired you to start your own business?
Love the civil side of engineering and like drawing on the computer.
Allowed me to work under Covid conditions by remote online services.
