How can someone tell if their Garage is suitable for conversion?
1. Solid Structure
• The walls, roof, and foundations must be sound.
• Look for cracks, damp, or structural weakness.
2. Adequate Head Height
• Minimum of about 2.2m ceiling height is usually required.
• If it’s too low, the floor may need lowering or the roof raising.
3. Good Foundations & Flooring
• Concrete base should be strong and level.
• Damp-proof membrane may be needed if moisture is present.
4. Access & Natural Light
• Can you add windows/doors easily?
• Does it connect well with the main house?
5. Services Available
• Is it possible to bring in plumbing, electrics, and heating?
• Essential if converting into a bedroom, office, or bathroom.
6. Planning Permission
