It depends entirely on the client and the type of therapy session that they want. For example, it’s normal to have telephone or online counselling sessions more frequently, say once a week. Whereas face-to-face counselling sessions might be less often, maybe every two weeks or once a month. If they wish, clients can use a mixture of counselling session types. This is a good way to get the benefits of each type if they cannot fit in a weekly face-to-face session. Normally, a weekly session is recommended at first. But the sessions can become less frequent as the couples work through their problems.
Again, it’s different for each relationship. Some people only need a few sessions to resolve their issues. Whereas for some couples who may be married and have a family together, it could take longer. This is because there are other people to consider. Each talking point may have different implications for their family, so can take longer to work through. Normally, I'll complete six sessions with my clients before doing a review. This is when we'll discuss whether they feel the need to continue with the sessions or not.
It’s not essential that both parties are present at every session. If each person has their own issues which are affecting their relationship, then individual sessions can be really useful. But for the most part, it's best if both parties attend every time, as it's the best way for them to work through their issues together. Coming to the sessions together often encourages people to listen to each other in a calm and proactive way. This can have a really positive impact on their everyday interactions with each other.

Coach Mashudu, It all started when I was doing my vision board, I started doing vision boards about years ago and consistently the relationships area was always low. And I didn't know how I was supposed to improve it. But I guess it was time in 2025, when that came up again, Coach explained why it was a problem. And the only thing I had on my vision board was the relationship to myself. And all I can say is wow wow wow, what a best decision I have ever taken in my life, spending 12 weeks on the Relationship classes healing my self and understanding how childhood, motherhood and fatherhood wounds were affecting me, and I continuosly sacrificed my self trying to make external relationships work only to find out that I was actually fighting with myself. I attracted toxic people, because of the toxicity that was inside. Brokenness from traumas I encountered when I was younger, I was in awe to find out that I did not love myself, I was not gentle towards myself, I literally crucified myself, blamed myself I did not forgive myself for mistakes that I did in the past. There were a whole lot of things that were going wrong in my life. I knew I deserved better, but I continuously made wrong decisions, even when I knew what needed to happen in my life. What I can say is, it is a continuous journey to get to the healing, but I have never felt like this in my life, it's like I have been awaken from long sleep, to my surprise even diseases in my body are starting to heal. There is a saying that if you want to change the world, change yourself first that is making sense so much. The eyes that we use to look at the world can be toxic, and we endeup not seeing anything good in our life's. The process for me was cleaning or clearing the eyes of my soul so I can even see myself as how God created me.
