What’s the difference between a dietitian and a nutritionist?

Registered dietitians are qualified to assess, diagnose and treat dietary problems or nutritional needs. They also tend to help clients with special dietary requirements or medical conditions. To be a dietitian, you’ve got to be registered with the Health and Care Professionals Council (HCPC). Many dietitians work within the NHS as opposed to privately, although you can still find private dietitians to help advise you on your eating habits. Whereas nutritionists are more likely to be the ones advising on weight loss or sport nutrition. Nutritionists can be registered with the UK Voluntary Register of Nutritionists (UKVRN), but they don't have to be.

What qualifications do you need to be a nutritionist?

To become qualified as a nutritionist, I had to complete a course run by the UKVRN. After completing the course, I became qualified as a registered nutritionist. This means that all my clients can check my qualifications and experience online. Clients can therefore be confident in my abilities, as they know that I'm qualified under a trustworthy organisation.

What’s the most common reason why clients come to you?

Weight loss is the most common reason that new clients come to me. They often find it difficult to know how to get the right nutrients into their diets without feeling hungry or unsatisfied. But over the last few years, I’ve had more and more people coming to me with IBS-related issues. I think that's because more people are recognising the symptoms of IBS and are getting diagnosed. They then come to nutritionists or dietitians for guidance on how to alter their eating habits to help relieve their symptoms.

A Heartfelt Thank You to JP and Germanic New Medicine I want to take a moment to express my deep gratitude to Jean Paul (JP) for the incredible support he provided through Germanic New Medicine. Since early 2023, I’ve been struggling with ongoing fatigue and persistent left hip pain. I had done a session with JP before for other health issues, and the results were amazing. But when it came to addressing these recent challenges, I delayed reaching out—mostly due to sheer exhaustion and feeling overwhelmed. My friend, who had initially recommended JP, kept encouraging me to book another session. I reached out but canceled twice due to my energy levels. Finally, this week, I had my session with JP, and it was absolutely mind-blowing. During the session, we uncovered the conflict behind my left hip pain, and the relief was almost instant. I only experienced pain once afterward, but as soon as I recognized the conflict and the patterns behind it, the pain vanished. Today, I’m thrilled to say I am full of energy and completely pain-free. This is just a brief glimpse into how much I suffered and how transformative JP’s guidance has been for me. I enjoyed my recent sessions with JP. He was easy to talk to and made me feel comfortable. I tried weight reduction hypnotherapy and have been seeing the results, I am no longer binging on junk food the ways I was and am looking for healthier options for snacks. JP also has sessions with my husband to quit smoking and hubby has been smoke free for nearly two weeks, which I thought was impossible for him. Highly recommend.
