Hi, my name is Siyan, and I'm a current medical student at the University of Newcastle! I am dedicated to providing high quality education to those in years 10-12 working towards HSC Maths Adv, Maths Ext 1, Chemistry and English Adv. Lessons will be held one-to-one for 1 hour, either online or in my house in Newcastle. I charge a rate of $40 per hour. Lessons will go as such: 1. We will first go over where you are at in your preparation, identifying areas in which you are most confident, and areas with some gaps in understanding. 2. We will analyse why these areas are challenging, in relation to your understanding and the strategies you are employing. 3. We will devise new strategies together, focusing on strategies which suit your learning style and may be used in exams for effective results. 4. We will complete practice questions to solidify your understanding and build your capability to apply this in an exam. I love tutoring because of how rewarding it's been for me personally- I love seeing the grades of my students improve, and with that, their motivation and self-confidence. I also have a genuine passion for STEM (hence my decision to study medicine!), and I enjoy being able to teach what I love as part of my job.
I was inspired by my business from my own struggles through high school- I struggled academically, which in turn affected my self-esteem. It wasn't until I was mentored by my lovely science teacher that my understanding of the subject improved, as she was able to explain things clearly. This helped me develop a love for learning, which I hope to instill into my students.
My business stands out from the rest due to my unique yet effective approach to tutoring. Each student is unique, and so my teaching has a holistic focus, being tailored to you and your goals, whatever they are. For example, I mentored one my students through his year 12, and now he’s studying engineering at UNSW with a scholarship! I also understand ow difficult exams at school can be, which is why I also teach exam techniques and study strategies, so you can learn all the content effectively, without having to spend all day at a desk!
I can provide my services online- tutoring sessions will be held via zoom, with usage of technology like Microsoft Whiteboard and Google Docs. I am experienced with such technology, having over a year's experience with online tutoring.
Lessons will be conducted online, or in my home with appropriate equipment e.g. masks.
