I, as a seventeen year old, felt mistreated by the rules of Brackenview hospital(It was NOT the staff, it was the rules the staff had to enforce). Nonetheless I stated to the staff that I wanted to be moved to Life Poortview after being and sleeping there for one day and one night. Today, on this date, 24 November 2023, I have been discharged from Life Poortview and it was a 5 star experience. “⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️” Therefore to any child, adult, teenager or parent, please refrain from coming or being admitted to Life Brackenview, rather go to Life Poortview. This is for the following reasons: •I could never be in my room during the day and was forced to stay up until 22:00 at night. •They had barely any group activities and all there really was, was a very small lounge that had only a one television with few channels. There was also only a PlayStation 4 with two controllers. •Outside there was only a boxing bag, a broken basketball hoop, deflated basketball(so there was only a plastic ball that could be used), chalkboard and a “TINY” patch of grass. To put it all in summary, we as teenagers had to hand in our phones, but there was barely anything to keep our minds busy.(Apparently Life Brackenview only allows its patients their phones on the weekend, where as I saw Life Poortview allows its patients their phone for 5 hours per day from Monday to Friday and on Saturday and Sunday, 12 hours per day!) Therefore at Life Brackenview, I was bored out of my mind and that led me to constantly think of the “tragedy that happened to me”. I guess you can know what that means, due to the POPI Act I will not further divulge into that because it had an enormous impact on my life. Nonetheless, due to Life Brackenview’s rules I had nothing else to do, but constantly think of the “tragedy”. Ultimately, for the sanity of you, your child or anyone you may know who is “struggling”. Please refrain from going to Life Brackenview, rather go to Life Poortview. More...

Great nursing and security staff. However the other staff like the psychiatrist and psychologist are not really convern in helping patients with pschiaristic needs. This is a hospital ideal for people that simply want to breakaway from school or work for a little break, but as a health facility to help people I would give them a 0. More...

Being admitted to this hospital was one of the worst experiences I have had. I asked to be in a private ward, as I went through a mental breakdown and no sleep. I needed peace and quiet to heal. I was told that there was private rooms available, so I had to share a room with 3 other ladies. There was no respect for one's privacy. Always loud conversations on their phones and watching TV progrsmns without earphones. When I complained about it, I was made out as to be the bad one. This situation was discussed daily and it just became worse. The nursing staff was friendly in the beginning, but became very rude. I asked my psychiatrist to discharge on day 3, as my depression and not sleeping became worse. Sr Naledi in Opal ward was one of the nurses, the at treated me like I was irritating her. I am completely disappointed with the 3 days that I spent in Life Bracken view. I came out there more depressed and negative than when I arrived there More...

The hospital staff is good besides the food kitchenstaff. They deprive patients of food , they will ditch out food In small portions and when you request again they will refuse and say you must stipulate on your food option that u will need more portions, but when you do that they will still say they can't do it because its not allowed ,but what is surprising its seeing them packing the food for themselves . I'm still hereasa Patient and I belive this experience is unnecessary for patients of our condition , I think with my condition of depression and anxiety I dont need to be dealing with such people, who don't care .The kitchen staff was rude even when I ask them about the complain procedure a Lady by the name of Busi said I must report at the ward and with a very condescending attitude.I regret this incident next time I will go to AKESO the treatment is off high calibre all.patients are respected More...
