The Moringa Dancers are a high energy, high tempo dance group influenced by West African music and culture in Wellington, New Zealand. We offer fun, uplifting performances for your festival, school, organisation, community event or party, and provide weekly community classes in Newtown. We perform and facilitate in collaboration with our partner African percussion band, Kubatana, and our friends at Djembe NZ to create a powerful synergy of movement and music bringing life, energy and joy to every occasion. We are a multicultural group, with members from across the globe including the UK, Brazil, US, Tanzania, Madagascar, Spain, Chilé, Mexico, France, Philippines, India, Solomon Islands, and New Zealand. We have come together here in NZ through a shared passion for the interaction of live music and expressive movement. Kubatana means UNITY. Why Unity? Our group comes from all walks of life, but when we play together as a group, we become one, and unity, for us, is what dance & drumming are all about.
I love having the collective experience of live music and dance and sharing that joy in the community! I get to meet so many wonderful passionate artists and fun-seekers, and share what I love to do with them as a performer, collaborator and teacher. I feel very grateful and privileged to have this opportunity.
I was inspired to start my own business because when I moved to Wellington, I didn't find anyone offering what I do and wanted to share my skills and knowledge and build a community around my passion.
Choose us if you want to bring rhythm, life, joy, energy, colour and vibrance to your event!
We can provide zoom dance workshops and lessons with recorded music, and fb live percussion classes.
To keep my customers safe from Covid, during various stages of alert levels in NZ, I have moved totally online, and given in person and zoom options for classes, keeping my class numbers limited to the appropriate numbers for the alert level we are in, and even in level 1, I am continuing to take bookings that require clients to give contact tracing details, and I always keep accurate records and registries to ensure our collective safety. I have also provided videos of past performances and classes to events that had booked Moringa Dancers and couldn't go ahead, so they could stream performances and keep the energy alive!

What can we say other than we were incredibly impressed with just how Vito took care of us from start to finish. We felt like we had a friend and personal assistant throughout the process towards our wedding and then on the night itself, back in May 2024. It was surreal to look around and see every single person on the dance floor at midnight. What an amazing night. Could not recommend Vito enough.

Petrus has been great. I feel the coaching/tutoring has really been tailored to my level and needs at a pace that is manageable. Highly recommended.

Vito did my 21st birthday and we had such an awesome night. He was so good at playing for my folks and older guests and then changing it up for my friends and I, playing all the bangers and a pretty crazy pop and drum n bass set
