Finding professionals for a quality extension project

Growing out of your home?

When you outgrow your living space, moving house is an option. But when you consider the cost of upsizing, it’s easy to see why many homeowners decide to stay put and extend their homes instead. Adding a new extension onto your house can add space and bring a new dynamic to the property. Building a new two-storey extension or basement conversion, for example, can be a great way to add more space for guests and a growing family.

Why hire a property extension specialist?

Specialist extension companies are qualified construction professionals who have considerable experience in extension projects. They can carry out extension works with minimal disturbance, and source the manpower and tools needed from start to finish. A specialist extension team can usually tackle all extension tasks. These include inner wall removal, cavity wall insulation, room ventilation, electric installation, plastering, and decorating. They’ll also be able to advise on planning permission, building regulations approval, building permits, boundary constraints, and ensure that these are adhered to.

Home extensions with inspired design and quality workmanship

Like all construction projects, a considerable amount of planning is involved in extension projects, both in terms of design and budget. With our help, you can find the best team for your new property extension. Bark allows you to gather and compare quotes from the right builders and architects in your area, swiftly and with minimal effort. Our extension experts will be able to answer all your queries. From how to plan an extension, to the average cost of the type of extension you’re looking for.

How much does a house extension cost?

The cost of building an extension is determined by a number of factors, including size, specification, and your location. You may be planning a basement conversion, a single storey extension, a downstairs toilet extension, or an extension over your garage. Whatever you have in mind, our experts will take a detailed brief in order to provide an accurate quote for the work.

Do I need planning permission?

In many cases, you can extend your home under Permitted Development (PD). For example, under PD you can extend a detached property by 8m to the rear, if it’s a single-storey extension, or by 3m if it’s double. Check with your local council and your extension specialist before you get too far into the planning stages, because your project may not meet all the criteria for PD.

What about insurance?

Most insurers won’t cover any loss or damage incurred while a property is undergoing alteration or renovation. If you’re carrying out extension works and managing the project yourself, it’s worth discussing your project with an insurance provider, before any work begins. You may need to arrange a specific extension policy to cover the new works and the existing structure. It’s also worth enquiring about a 10-year structural warranty, as this can be provided on some new extension works.

Joe's design input into our extension plan was realistic in terms of budget, timeline and planning protocol. Moreover his professional experience was very reassuring.

I could not recommend Joe Rosney highly enough, his passion for design and attention to details was excellent. We were very happy with his professional advice and guidance throughout our build.

From the very beginning of our project Joe was easy to work with. He listened to what we wanted and needed so when he came back with a design it really felt like “ours” rather than his. He has been sensitive to our budget choosing materials and on time with everything that was asked of him. It was also worthwhile keeping him involved during the build as his advice and practical approach proved invaluable in dealing with unexpected turns during the renovation process. Cannot recommend working with Joe enough.
