I am so humbled and grateful for Maddy. I love to sing and can now confidently say my dream is to perform. Maddy made that possible.
Last May, after a workplace karaoke event, I decided to Google search for vocal instructors because I got word from a man I didn't know that "I should find a way to do this." By that he meant sing. I connected with Maddy through Thumbtack that same night. I was nervous for that first meeting because I didn't know how my talent would stack up. Before Maddy I had very little experience performing and only really started to understand my voice a few years earlier when auditioning for a law school talent show.
Maddy's kindness, patience, and professionalism made it easy, instantly, for me to connect with her and trust her. We just hit it off right away. From then on I felt comfortable sharing my voice, songwriting, and artistry with her because I know that Maddy genuinely wants to help me become a trust artist. She has created a space for me to express myself while developing my artistry through proper technique. She has done so much for my confidence and continues to help me build it out.
Maddy and I meet once a week for an hour over Skype or Facetime. Generally, we work on two of the three for each lesson: singing, songwriting, or guitar. But, in the new year we are going to begin a study on music theory and Maddy plans on introducing me to music production software so that I can put music to the songs I have written. Maddy has a plan for every lesson, but she is completely adaptable; focusing in on what I want to hit for that lesson.
To date, we have worked on five songs: Let It Go (from Frozen), Wake Me Up (by Aloe Blacc), Bleeding Love (by Leona Lewis), Fighter (by Christina Aguilera), and Dude (Looks Like a Lady) (by Aerosmith). Without Maddy I never would have imagined that I could sing a Christina Aguilera or Steven Tyler song. Maddy's ability to pull the best out of my voice is nothing short of incredible. Pair that with her belief in me and Maddy has given me the greatest gift: confidence in my artistry.
I have also written north of 10 original songs. Maddy has reviewed every song and provided substantive feedback so that I communicate the message and sentiment I envisioned in the most effective way possible. Maddy and I are also working on guitar. Maddy uses materials on Dropbox to teach me basic notes and chords and completes each guitar lesson with demonstrations and material to practice.
I am so grateful Maddy and I have crossed paths. It's been a life-changing experience in the best possible way. Not to mention, Maddy is an incredibly talented musician in her own right. She has a beautiful voice and is straight up vicious on the guitar. Her knowledge, ear, and artistry inspire me. I can't wait to see where Maddy takes me in this journey. For now though, I am so thankful we are on it. I can't recommend Maddy highly enough.
