Stephanie Bostic, PhD CPCFT provides remote and in-person dog training. Stephanie began training dogs in middle school, and then was told it was a terrible career during a school assignment of interviewing people about careers. She's decided that advice was wrong. Very wrong. After years of working with rescue dogs as a volunteer, she is getting professional dog training certifications. Her current focus is basic manners and canine fitness (CPCFT). Stephanie follows veterinary association and animal behavior research for guidance on the most effective training approaches. She works with a variety of breeds, from chihuahuas to huskies to shepherds. Beyond training basic life skills, she has trained dogs for therapy work, agility, nosework, tracking, and rally. She currently has two dogs, who both enjoy canine fitness and nosework. PLEASE NOTE: Services outside of the Broome County, New York and the Montrose, Pennsylvania areas are remote (Zoom) only unless you are close enough to drive to me.

What do you love most about your job?

I enjoy working with each dog's personality. Three clients might bring me the same breed, age, and concern but the approach for each household will be different. The puzzle of how to create a happy household is always intriguing.

Most satisfying-- seeing the improvement in the dog's skills. I'm always delighted to see a skittish dog dive into a noisy task or an overexuberant greeter sit calmly while greeting a neighbor.

What inspired you to start your own business?

People love their dogs. And yet, we all have some experiences with dogs that are challenging at some point. Improving life for dogs and the people who love them is my mission.

My work allows me to support dogs in different ways:
1) physically, through canine fitness
2) socially, through improved dog-human bonds
3) emotionally, through developing confidence

My work allows me to support families in different was:
1) socially, through improved dog-human bonds
2) financially, through preventing expensive behavior problems
3) emotionally, through reducing worry or frustration about specific problems like house training, barking, or a frail beloved dog.

Why should our clients choose you?

Because you and your dog are my focus, I support you in creating a long-term successful dynamic. When we work together, you set the goals (because it is your life with your dog) and I help you achieve them.

As a CPCFT, I offer personalized support using a variety of techniques, including:
-shaping, luring, or using targeting to develop specific movements
-game based skills development
-generalization of skills
-dog-human communication skills
-positive reinforcement of captured behaviors
-management plans.
Much of my focus is on training you to train your dog.

Finally, it is important for me to refer people to a colleagues because sometimes I am not qualified. For example, I do not accept complex behavior cases or aggression. My referral policy means you will get the care you need-- not just what I provide. I may refer after an initial call or early in our first appointment.

Can you provide your services online or remotely? If so, please add details.

Yes, via phone or video chat (Zoom). Materials and written directions are shared through a shared document where you can ask questions.

What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?
