We have been with TPC for nearly three years now and we love it! Our teacher, Mr. Zimmerman, has been instrumental in developing our kids' talent and passion for playing piano. He is a kind, patient and adaptive teacher, catering to both of our kids' own unique learning styles, which has been critical to their continued success and growth. TPC has remained a constant throughout the pandemic through their flexibility and success implementing virtual lessons, though we do look forward to returning to the studio this summer. There, I witnessed the interactions between many other teachers with their students and parents and my impression is that TPC is a caring and kind community and we are happy to be a part of it. What do you love most about your job?
Music can be fun, emotional, challenging, healing, exciting, and it is certainly rewarding. Music is used to help us celebrate good times, and morn during some of the most challenging chapters of life. It is one thing to listen to music, but to learn how to express yourself through playing an instrument or through your voice is such a profound and deep experience. It is an honor to share and teach the gift of music to others. It is amazing to watch students achieve goals they never thought possible, and see their eyes open up to a world they never knew existed. One of our instructors puts it best: "Music isn't something you do, it is something you are."
What inspired you to start your own business?
I always loved playing music. In fact, when I was a child, my brother and I would get in fist fights with each other because one of us wouldn't let the other have their turn practicing the piano. It took awhile for me to understand why my piano teacher would laugh when we would confess that we didn't practice much because we had been grounded from our piano. I also love to teach. Before getting my driver's license, I used to ride my bike to houses around the neighborhood teaching piano lessons, and I continued to teach privately ever since.
Why should our clients choose you?
One of the most difficult and most important decisions to make when learning an instrument is which instructor to choose. The problem is that this decision is far too often taken lightly, and a poor choice is made as a result of not knowing what to look for in a quality instructor.
We pride ourselves in the teachers who represent The Piano Cottage. In fact, we receive hundreds of applicants, and we carefully select only the best of the best to ensure that our students receive the highest quality of instruction. We offer a free trial lesson to make sure that everything feels like a good fit before you commit to regular lessons.
Can you provide your services online or remotely? If so, please add details.
Yes - In March of 2020, the pandemic forced instructors of The Piano Cottage to offer instruction remotely through Zoom, FaceTime and other similar platforms. At first, we were very hesitant about lessons being administered virtually, but we were pleasantly surprised by the result. Our attendance was significantly higher, students were almost never late, and they were still progressing - some at a faster rate than before. Many of our families and students took notice of the benefits of remote lessons, and have chosen to stay virtual rather than return to in-person lessons.
What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?
Our lessons are offered remotely, so there is no risk of spreading Covid-19 during a lessons.
