MTC Music Academy

Tegan has been working with my 10-year old daughter for the past year and a half on voice and acting the song for musical theater. She is incredibly kind, patient and knows her stuff. We did audition prep for Professional Performing Arts Middle School in NYC - 32 seats for the entire city - and my daughter was selected out of over 800 kids city wide for a call back. I highly recommend MTC Music Academy for your child's music education. Our daughter has been working with instructors from MTC for a few years now, and we are impressed with the thoroughness, thoughtfulness and creative spark all the instructors bring to the lessons.

I am a graduate Music Education student, and spent about 10 weeks receiving tutoring from Tegan for Musical Analysis. We met at Columbia University at a conducting intensive in January 2018. When I realized the content of this course, I knew she would be the perfect person to ask for help. Once I contacted her for help, she responded right away and we set up our meetings. Before the first meeting, she asked for my course syllabus and offered to look over the material I would be covering. I can tell she took the time to prepare for each session. In between sessions, she made herself available via phone or text so I could get feedback on my work. She was very understanding and flexible with my schedule due to the COVID-19 crisis and being a working mom of an 18 month old. She taught me techniques to remember the trickiest parts of music theory, and as the class went on, I was able to do more and more on my own. I ended up getting an A in the class, but more importantly- I finally GET it! For the first time in my life, I am able to understand music theory and complete assignments on my own without stress or fear. Tegan is an incredible voice teacher! In the four months I've been taking classes (in-person and online), I've grown more than I thought possible as a singer. Tegan is fabulous at finding the teaching style that works for you, and takes into consideration your whole person. Sometimes we have complicated relationships with our singing, and most teachers tell you to just push past it. Tegan uses her experience and intuition to help you engage with yourself as an instrument honor the parts of learning that are hard. I'm so happy I found MTC Music Academy! More...
