About

I've created a design process that focuses on the client's goals. The advantage is that everyone involved in designing and building your home has a better understanding of the design characteristics that are most important to you and those characteristics are incorporated in the correct proportion.

Thank you, Chad, It's always great to work with someone who enjoys the design process and has ideas but keeps an open mind. Having a client come back to you project after project is the ultimate compliment. I look forward to the next project!

Q&As

Many people will develop an emotional connection to the home that they live in, however, that usually takes time to build up those emotional ties. The thing I enjoy most is helping design a home for someone that achieves their vision and one where they have an immediate emotional connection with.

I want to be able to help people design the home that meets the vision they have in their minds of what a home should be- how the home should function, look, and most importantly, how it should make them feel.

Clients should choose me because of the value they will get in return. I've developed a design process that was created to help clients design a custom home that achieves their vision while never losing sight of their budget and timeframe requirements. This is combined with my hands on experience in single family home construction and my attention to detail that is evident in the services provided to clients.

Yes, architectural services for new construction can be provided online and/or remotely. In terms of quality control and helping you to get the best end product, the design and construction of your home will benefit from site visits before and during construction. Even with most of the services provided remotely, at least a few site visits will be beneficial. I do feel that projects that are renovations and/or additions would require the architect to make significantly more site visits. Even with the best laid plans, renovations tend to have a good amount of surprises in which a site visit is needed.
Also, just keep in mind that while services can be provided remotely, an architect has to be licensed in the state in which your project is located. I am currently licensed in PA, NJ, and CA. Most states allow architects to obtain licenses to practice in a particular state through reciprocity when the architect is NCARB certified- which I am. I would be willing to obtain licensure in another state for a project that peaks my interest.

Most of the architectural services needed for designing a new home can be done either virtually or by meeting with clients in an outdoor environment. I still believe that face to face meetings between architect, client, and others on the design and construction team deliver the best results. With that being said, I have adapted a lot of the initial meeting and information gathering sessions so that virtual meetings are just as valuable as face to face meetings.

Designing your new dream home is a much more intricate process than deciding how many bedrooms and bathrooms you want and then picking finishes from a builder’s list of options.

This is why I created my 25 Power Questions for Couples Who Want to Build Their Dream Home in 2024. Some questions are obvious, some questions should be asked but seldom are, and a couple of the questions will change the way you look at your future home.

An exercise that is a series of questions, equal parts design and psychology, that were created to get a better understanding of the design characteristics that are most important to you, in the right order, and in the right proportion.

The result is an unmatched return on design- which can be financial return on investment, increased quality of life, reduction in the stress of the home building process, and/or your overall happiness in your home.

Visit the Services page of my website, and this service is part of the larger Needs and Options Review Service.

This is the pre-design research phase of a project and can be a stand alone service. When you are considering your options, this service can be tailored to find out the information you want to know in the beginning phases of your project so you can consider several options and decide on the best one for you.
Services typically include analyzing a the zoning and features of a property to determine suitability, reviewing your goals for your planned home, involving an experienced custom home builder to develop a range for construction budget and timeframe, and my one of a kind Design DNA Workshop.
All of this is available without entering into an agreement for a full design services package. You'll be provided with a report containing the information requested. From this point, you will be able to move forward with your design project confidently making decisions throughout the entire process- which will proceed more efficiently, thus saving you time and money.

This is the the phase where the design of your project begins and your home begins to take shape. From rough sketches at the beginning through scaled floor plans and elevations to computer models and renderings. All of your ideas take shape and the permitting process begins at the end of this phase when a zoning permit application can be submitted. A general contractor can also provide more detailed construction estimates to make sure your project is keeping on target with budget and timeframe.

Once zoning approval is provided by the township, city, etc, construction documents can be started. In this phase, detailed drawings are created that serve as the instructions for building the home: Floor plans and building elevations are dimensioned and notes added to describe such things as materials, and window and door sizes; Details, building sections, and wall sections created that show the wall, floor, and ceiling assemblies; The structural engineer designs the entire structural system from foundation design to roof framing. Other consultants also prepare their detailed drawings to be used during construction.

During construction, the architect services include such things as continuing coordination with the contractor and other consultants, makes regular site visits for the purpose of general observations as to the progress of construction and construction adherence with the construction documents, process contractor requests for payments, and the architect continues to work as your advocate until construction is finished.
