If you're an adult looking to take acting classes, look no further! Instructor Dawn Thomas Reidy is a super star actor! Her coaching techniques and exercises will prepare you for your next gig, public speaking engagement, or audition! Dawn truly brings you out of your shell and enhances your natural ability to do things or say things you didn't see or know you had in you! I loved last semester so much, I signed up again for the ongoing month to month classes! She has helped me through auditions, voice over gigs, and just a great mentor for me! Love The Academy of Fine Arts! P.S. Dawn is an amazing actor and I had the pleasure of seeing her as action and was in awe of her talent! Wow just wow!!! More...

My daughter spent about six years training at the Academy. Every facet of her (and our) experience was top notch. She was introduced to the piano and acting at the Academy. She became particularly interested in acting. Over time she began working in a group of children directly under the tutelage of Phil Hosford. Phil is so experienced in every phase of acting that she and the others learned so much so quickly. Every session was carefully crafted to teach specific skills. My wife and I were amazed at our daughter's growth and the quality of her performances. We left the Academy when we moved out of state. Now in high school, our daughter continues to build on the foundation Phil and the Academy provided. In a recent audition, she used a monologue she had worked on with Phil. The audition went quite well and reminded us of all Phil and the Academy had given her. She has acquired good preparation habits, acting skill, self-confidence, stage presence, and a love of acting. We are pleased to give the Academy and Phil Hosford our highest rating and sincere recommendation. More...

My daughter has taken private piano lessons for over seven years from Mr. Hosford at the Academy of Fine Arts in Gaithersburg, MD. Mr. Hosford is a great teacher. He is great in teaching not only fundamental techical skills but also in musical understanding and performing arts. Academy of Fine Arts also provides advanced curriculum, such as Royal Society/Carnegie Hall Achievement Program. It brings paino teaching to international standards and elevates students' piano skills and performance to a much higher level. More...

My son has been studying at the Academy of Fine Arts for a few years now (piano) and I am very happy with his experience there. From my perspective, the most amazing things that are happening are: the fact that he tremendously enjoys playing piano, performing and having lessons with his very talented teacher (Phil H.), while at the same time progressing technically and playing with emotions/accents that make music beautiful. As evident at the recitals, there are a lot of talented, hard-working students here. More...

My daughter has been taking Suzuki Violin Class with Miss Leslie Smile for almost 5 years since she was 5. We are truly happy with her progress each year. Miss Leslie is a very experienced teacher. She knows how to communicate with kids, she knows how to motivate kids to love music and practice more. She is also kind enough to go the violin shop to select violin for my daughter, let us to borrow some violin accessories from her. More...

Ms. Leslie is a wonderful violin teacher. The Suzuki program is top notch and it shows especially when the older students perform. The students learn theory, memorization, and perform for each other 3-4 times per month. Recitals are held 6 times a year so there is ample opportunity to display what they have learned. My kids have become familiar with many musical suites and composers because of Ms. Leslie. My son has taken piano from Ms. Shih for 3 years and has advanced wonderfully. We are part of the Royal Conservatory Music Development Program. He has learned advance music theory and the classical music selections are great. Most music studios have the kids learn pop music, but the classical music is best for the kids to learn proper technique. Kids really do love classical music if they are exposed to it. More...

I take adult tap here with Stephanie Miller who is an excellent teacher. Though, I live in Bethesda and there are loads of studios around here I'd much rather take the trip out to Gaithersburg. The Academy of Fine Arts is unparalleled from the classes to the staff. I highly recommend it for adults and kids!!!!Loretta B. More...

The Academy of Fine Arts is a hidden gem in Gaithersburg. My older daughter is a serious music student and she started her first private piano lesson at the Academy when she was 7. She is now 15 and still loves being a student at the Academy. My younger daughter also has been a happy student there for the past 6 years. The tuition is very reasonable, but that is not what I like most about this place. The teachers are genuinely interested in helping the students play their instruments better, and the Academy provides a nurturing environment that is critical for learning music. Performance is always encouraged at the Academy, and there are plenty of opportunities in the no-fee monthly student recitals. They also offer music theory classes which my girls have participated in for years. Both of my girls have been studying with Natasha Dukan, who is not only a stellar pianist, but also the most brilliant teacher. She knows how to motivate her students and help they continue to develop technically and musically. My older daughter also takes violin lessons from Leo Sushansky, who is a wonderful soloist and a chamber musician with a very successful career in performance. Nothing is better than learning first-hand from the pros. I sit in on all of my girls’ lessons and take notes for them, and I must say that I have learned so much as well. If you have youngsters that are interested in learning music, I would highly recommend starting them at the Academy. More...
