What’s the secret to taking a great photograph?

The secret to taking a great photograph is knowing the psychology of connection! A great photographer doesn't just understand their gear, they understand how to evoke authenticity of the person they are photographing. That requires the photographer to connect to their subject when it is a solo project. A project involving more people a great photographer will know how to invoke connection between the subjects for a natural end result.

What questions might you ask a client when starting a new project?

How do you want to remember this session in 20 years from now? Where are your portraits from 2, 5 and 10 years ago? How do you intend on passing these memories down for generations? What is your greatest insecurity when being photographed? How are your family relationships? What family relationship needs to be strengthened? What is your vision for your portraits?

What do you love most about your job?

It is an honor to capture this moment for my clients and create something more magnificent than a digital image that will die on a hard drive. My favorite part of the process is watching people's love come alive when we install our museum quality canvas artwork in their home.

What inspired you to start your own business?

Deep question for me. I started my business 12 hours before my oldest son was in an accident that took his life at 22 months old. It propelled me into giving to others what I wished I could give to myself. More than the perfect smile but the story and spirit behind the smile. You can read my whole story on my website.

Why should our clients choose you?

Because of my unique and heart wrenching story I believe I truly offer the very best because I treasure it in a way you can't unless you've walked the path I have walked. When you lose a beloved family member it helps give perspective 'If I could go back one more day, what would I want to remember?" and then I capture that. I have poured my heart and soul into learning the art of connection so I can capture the authenticity of my client. All because I know how valuable an authentic portrait will one day become.
