Dyese from Unruffled Paws literally saved my sanity. After adopting a puppy that had much higher energy that we expected, I spoke Dyese and talked me through some options offered. We opted for the 3 in home sessions. I was able to pick times that worked with my schedule. After just one session, I knew I had made the right decision with Unruffled Paws. It was not like most other training experiences where I was only taught basics. I truly felt like the program was tailored to my dog and I’s needs. After all 3 sessions, I felt confident enough to keep teaching my dog new commands. My dog responded to the training so well and it helped our bond grow! Dyese is the absolute BEST! She has a tremendous depth of knowledge with extensive experience in a wide range of training and behavioral situations. Dyese and mike at unruffled paws were great with my dog rocky. We did a 3 week board and train to help with rockys basic obedience and they did a really great job with him. Every day, they send pictures or videos and I could see rocky was getting plenty of love and attention. When I sent rocky to unruffled paws he didnt know nothing but now he listens to commands and is able to come back when hes off the leash. Dyese teach us that we dont have to bribe the dog or yell but helped us understand how to communicate with rocky better. More...

My son and I are autistic, so it’s helpful for us to have clearly defined structural points.
Prior to finding Unruffled Paws, I’d connected with various training providers who weren’t willing to work with our needs as a family, so I was very apprehensive moving forwards with a trainer for Frankie after such a poor experience elsewhere. Dyese listened to my concerns and was so understanding from our first conversation. Dyese is extremely detail oriented, communicative, and knowledgable and I love her relationship based approach to improving the quality of life we can provide for Frankie. From the very beginning, Dyese explained the training process to us from start to finish - including projected progression, alternatives to compensate for possible deviations from the planned curriculum in light of a recent fear period for our adolescent rescue dog, and created an easily integrated series of daily maintenance exercises that my son would also be able to participate in. She made training as smooth as possible for myself, my son, and Frankie and I don’t know what I would have done without her.

Working with unruffled paws company was an amazing experience . The representative/agent Dyese was very attentive and professional. She is a pro with dogs. My dog is some what of a knuckle head and does not like taking orders from anyone. But I was very surprised how Dyese handled the situation. It was like a natural instinct. My dog returned completely trained and happy after going through training with Dyese! She truly displays incredible patience and affection for animals. Whenever I need to travel, my little dog Cookie goes to Dyese, and the only downside to all of this is that when I go to pick her up to go back home, she doesn't want to leave! I reached out to Dyese over the summer when my pocket pitty, Tink, developed an obsession with rocks and resource guarding associated with this new obsession.
I was at a loss for how to handle a behavior like this and Dyese was immediately sympathetic and jumped right in to helping us. Not only did Dyese help Tink’s perspective and reactions change, she also helped me understand how to do all of the training necessary to address an undesirable behavior like this from the ground up so I, myself, felt more comfortable and confident in my ability to handle my dog.
Dyese’s relationship based approach to dog training changed the way Tink and I interact for the better and I can’t even begin to thank her enough for her dedication to the betterment of the lives of animals.
Since our training, Tink has since visited Dyese for slumber pawties right in Dyese’s home for both longer and shorter stays ranging from a long weekend to over two weeks. Throughout Tink’s time with her, Dyese has diligently sent detailed updates of Tink’s day to day activities (including pool time with a life vest Dyese provided and time playing in their ball pit!), maintained consistent communication, and was very flexible in accommodating me and my pup when my flight arrived later than anticipated and we had to extend her stay.
We’re so thankful to have Dyese and Unruffled Paws in our lives!

Being the owner of two large German shepherds who had grown into independent, mindful boys, I was in desperate need of a trainer who could get them back to a manageable level. I found Unruffled Paws offered the training I was interested in at an affordable rate. Their trainer, Dyese, had an immediate rapport with Blue and Shadow who seemed to know that she was in charge. I did a three week board and train, and when my dogs were returned to me, they were well behaved, well mannered and responsive just as I had hoped they would be. Dyese was put on this earth to train and take care of dogs. I met her back in 2022 when we needed someone to take care of our 2 dogs for FIVE WEEKS! 5 weeks is a lot of time to trust someone with your fur babies. I was so nervous. On top of it, one my dogs is an aggressive pitbull who needed training on top of boarding. I was so anxious - but the moment I meant Dyese all of my nerves went away. You can tell just by her presence alone that she is one of the most loving and patient people in the world. While we were gone she would update us on the pups and send us videos and photos. When they came back home, you knew they had the best time with her because both of them tried to get back into her car! I paid very close attention to how my dogs were reacting to her. If a dog wasn’t being loved they would not be obsessed with the person taking care of them and both of our pups are obsessed! And my aggressive pitbull was a completely new dog. Dyese is a miracle worker! Also my aggressive pitbull hates men - Mike is the dog whisper/charmer. He literally became my pitbull’s favorite person from the moment she met him. We used her again in feb 2023 for two weeks. The moment she came over, the dogs RANNNN to her and were so eager to get back in her car. They had the energy of kids like “bye mom we’re gonna go have some real fun” Dyese has a beautiful large yard where it truly is a doggy getaway!! Im so beyond grateful Dyese has come into our lives. Being able to spend my day interacting with dogs in some capacity or another is absolutely a dream come true. It's so fulfilling to know we're making a difference in dogs' lives and seeing them go from these high energy, erratic animals to well mannered members of their families make it all worth it.
What inspired you to start your own business?
Unruffled Paws was created as a solution for pet owners throughout New York seeking more for their furry friends. Unruffled Paws ensures a reliable way to meet the needs that weren't being met by other businesses: quality care, affection, communication, attentiveness, and guidance through a range of modalities. Be it training, boarding, walking, or grooming, Unruffled Paws exists to provide the best experience for both pets and pet owners.

At the end of the day, our main priority is ensuring the emotional, mental, and physical needs of all dogs in my care are being met to the fullest extent possible. At the end of the day, dogs are pretty responsive once we begin communicating more efficiently. While in-person training has its merits, there's no reason dog training cannot successfully be offered online if the owners and handlers are ready, willing, and able to follow instructions. I can guide you through the motions remotely.
What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?
Throughout the Covid-19 pandemic and in the time since the worst of it, Unruffled Paws provides all staff members with PPE in the form of gloves, masks, and various sanitization products to help prevent the spread of disease. All surfaces are disinfected daily to ensure cleanliness.
Dog Training
While we do offer a variety of coverage for a range of behavioral concerns, this service gives the option of a single session with a duration of 45-60 minutes per session or the ability to purchase sessions in bulk packages of 3, 6, or 10 sessions.
For obedience training programs in which a client purchases several sessions, most cases call for meeting once or twice a week after developing a curriculum customized to your specific needs and addressing a variety of behavioral concerns including but not limited to basic commands, leash manners, establishing neutrality in different environments, and developing the ability to settle during down times at home.

Board and Train
A "boot camp" style booking where dogs are given the opportunity to stay in my home for a fully immersive experience providing an introduction to solutions for basic behavioral concerns like recall, basic commands and manners, crate training, housebreaking, leash manners, and building neutrality during down time.
During this booking, your dog will be placed on a potty schedule that can be adjusted for when he or she returns home, participating in three to five training sessions per day, as well as going on two to three excursions and one hike per week.
At the end of each board and train booking, I spend about an hour with you ensuring you're comfortable and confident with the maintenance training required to have behavioral retention for the work done during your dogs' board and train program. All training tools used during your dog's booking are provided at this point with extensive instructions and tutorials for each item as well as a recommended schedule to adhere to to help reacclimate your dog to your home and a written glossary of commands.
While I do have a recommended curriculum to establish a behavioral and relationship foundation, each program is fully customizable to cater directly to you, you dog, and your household's specific needs. Extended bookings are available for more advanced behavior cases.
