I am writing to give a full throat review of Alison and her design company. They have become the strength, creativity and professionalism behind the rebrand of Motlow State Community College Athletics. Her work speaks for itself. She has attached every item that we have thrown at her and completely rocked it. She has been professional and timely. Her creativity knows no bedtime as she delivers well into the evening hours to complete a task. If you ever need a more candid testimony, look at Motlow State College Athletics. Her handy work will be all over its social media pages as well as the new website coming soon.Dr. John C Chandler III More...

We were referred to Alison by a mutual business acquaintance about two years ago. So glad we were! She’s been great to work with on creating and developing our small businesses branding portfolio including seasonal specialty packaging, booth signage, marketing materials. She’s professional, highly creative, insightful, flexible – very easy to work with. Without hesitation, we highly recommend her to anyone looking to work with a local graphic designer! More...

What makes a great website?
Websites that are easy to navigate make great sites. Use quality visuals that represent your product or services and scale easily on various devices. Your navigation should be simple and easy to find.
What questions might you ask a client when starting a new project?
When starting a new project, I like to ask questions about the client's business, what they've done in the past and what their goals are for the future. I also like to know just a little bit about them. Some questions are related directly to the job at hand and others are looking for information on their personal preferences. Using this information, I can more accurately place their product and service using a vehicle that suites their clients as well as their business personality.
What information do you need from a client before you start work?
When starting design work, I need to know the audience I'm trying to attract, the preferred method of communication and the desired outcome of the marketing plan. It also helps to know a budget from a client because I can make recommendations that will serve them better or will support their current marketing efforts.
What sorts of printing projects do you usually cater for?
I love all kinds of print, but working with brochures and publications is my favorite because it ties so many design principles together and is an opportunity to really solidify good, strong branding with customers.
Describe your creative process.
On new projects, I do a bit of research to make sure I'm up-to-date on trends and their competitors. Sketching is my favorite place to start, it's creation without any rules and the free flowing mindset is where the best ideas come from. Once I have something created, I go to the screen and expand upon the possibilities. My goal for things like logos and identity pieces is to present 3 distinct options that fit with all I've learned about the client, their company and that industry. Some projects may only need two options. From that point on is where the client input begins. Sometimes one is chosen as is and sometimes a bit of mixing and matching happens. All projects are sent in final formats ready to be printed or uploaded with no additional steps needed. Just a nice little package ready to work for the client.
What information do you need from a client before you can start work?
When working with a new client, I like to do some research on their business and their competitors to see what the current state is and what tactics have been used in the past. It's also very important to sit down or have a live phone chat to talk about their business and their goals. Learning about the the client professionally and personally gives me a feel for things they would like in design. Clients who can show me three things they like, whether it be related to their industry or not, can really narrow down options and get to where they want to be quicker.
What do you love most about your job?
I love seeing people succeed. When a client comes back to tell me that they just loved the creative I did and they got so many compliments at a trade show or people walking through there shop or any other number of ways, that makes my day. People are engaging with them directly because of something I created for them and that's the name of the game.
What inspired you to start your own business?
I started my business for two reasons. One, I saw a middle ground between online, templated marketing options verses working with an agency. In this middle ground, it's hard for a business to find the help and experience they need to further their marketing goals and give their business a solid identity. Two, I need a flexible schedule for my personal life. In many ways, this benefits my clients as well. Being reachable during standard business hours is great, but being able to use quite time to really develop designs for a client leads to a clarity and concentration that doesn't always happen in a standard work enviornment.
Why should our clients choose you?
Clients should work with me because I'm not your typical freelancer. I pay attention to deadlines and details. I do my best to keep jobs moving and my clients happy. There are a number of ways to get creative done today. I fill the gap between a template that everyone else has and an agency where they don't give you the attention you deserve. Come to me for personal service and great creative.
