What do you love most about your job?

I am inspired by "new" so having a job that is continually evolving and changing is exciting. Taking a project and turning it into a work of art, is a very gratifying process. The magic happens both tactically (during the session) and digitally (post-processing), so the changing variables never fail to keep us on our toes. At The 8th Street Studio we LOVE to work with our clients to resolve any particular "pain points" that they might have, so dynamic problem solving (especially on the fly) keeps the monotony at bay. Delivering and hanging a finished piece (as the client gushes over it!) is pretty awesome too!

What inspired you to start your own business?

When I started the business back in 1999, there weren't very many women photographers. It was very much a man's profession. I started in the days of film, manual exposure, and the darkroom! Digital photography barely existed, and we didn't used to carry "cameras" in our back pockets like we do today (iPhones LOL!) so you really had to know what you were doing to take a photograph. Hard to believe now... but I started the business for the same reason that I still am running it 23 years later... freedom of creative expression! I like exploring new concepts, creating new processes, discovering potential. Being an 'out of the box' type of thinker, having room to roam, it would be very hard to "punch a clock" at this point in my career.

Why should our clients choose you?

The obvious answer here is most likely... experience. It's something that you just can't teach... 20+ years of it actually! But for me- it's more than that. As a born artist, I've never wanted to be like anyone else, which means I don't want my work to look like anyone else's either. Card and album design, compositing, digital painting, fine art, or more traditional work, I am always creating for the person who hired me. The work I do is highly diverse and and unique. Because of that adaptability, I can work in an authentic style that allows me to ebb and flow with the needs of the client, allowing for a true collaboration. The work produced is most appreciated by other creatives and perfectionists, those detail oriented enough to "see" the differences, those who both notice and appreciate the time and effort put into the creative process... those who want something DIFFERENT.

Can you provide your services online or remotely? If so, please add details.

We are happy to consult remotely to see if we're a good fit for the project. For smaller to medium sized commercial products and tabletop work, we can work out shipping details to get the items in hand and photographed with the images being delivered online. For larger commercial projects or commissioned high end portrait work, we also are available to travel.
