Attending weekly sessions with Charlie has changed my life. My counselling journey has been very up and down, I have felt consistently supported and encouraged, and as though however I am feeling is ok. I have learnt how to manage my emotions and am able to get through tough situations with a much clearer head. I look forward to my sessions every week and I feel I owe Charlie so much, I will never be able to thank her enough for this journey. She is a great counsellor and I would say to anybody considering getting in touch, absolutely do and it will be one of the best and most life changing decisions you make.

Offering online counselling with email and telephone back up. I am a qualified and experienced counsellor and helped many people during my supervision period post-qualification. All of my sessions are held remotely via video call, thus freeing time for you and allowing me to help you more than the more "traditional " face-to-face counselling. My business is extremely important to me and I apply a common sense approach that enables me to supply the highest quality, caring client care.

I help people make sense of their thoughts, feelings and behaviour, and difficult life experiences, which cloud our thinking and drain us of our energy to enjoy life, now. I believe we all have different parts of ourselves, which want different things and this can lead us to feel confused and stuck, not to mention exhausted. I help people make sense of their relationships and why they play out in predictable, unhelpful ways.

Life isn’t easy! Perhaps this is an understatement! Everyone has ‘stuff’ to deal with. Just when things seem good…something inevitably comes along to rock our world! It could be many things: Loss; of a loved one, divorce, relationship issues, redundancy, health, faith, a faithful pet, money, friends, family, purpose in life...all can lead to anxiety, stress, depression and withdrawal from everyday life.

Craig Coventry MBACP (reg.), MA, BSC. Professional and confidential counselling, psychotherapy, trauma therapy and EMDR practitioner in Guilford and Woking. My approach to counselling and psychotherapy aims to enable you to explore and get in touch with your experiences on an emotional, psychological and physical level. I see therapy as a journey of self-exploration and my role is to be with on your journey and to help deepen the process where possible. When I am with clients, I work with them on an individual basis, viewing them as unique human beings and try to meet the 'person behind the symptoms'. I find this to be extremely beneficial for clients, especially those who have been to other services and feel they have not been heard or felt that they were not valued as people but seen as symptoms to be reduced or in someway faulty that needed to be fixed- unfortunately there are many who feel this way. In addition to my more generic counselling practice, I have particular interests in working with Psychological Trauma. Psychological Trauma can be caused by a range of situations such as physical or sexual abuse, neglect, bullying or manipulation, whether regular or one off events such as accidents. There are many situations that can cause individuals to elicit a traumatic stress response leaving people in high states of arousal and anxiety. What is considered a 'Trauma' not the event per se but rather the individuals response. the more overwhelmed the individual felt at the time, the more helpless they felt at the time increases the likely hood of eliciting a traumatic response. Also, where the trauma is inflicted by someone in a trusted position in the person's life, a 'betrayal trauma', the complexity of the trauma can be increased. In short, trauma symptoms commonly include: intrusion (dreams, flash backs, images of the past, feeling like the past is still happening), hypervigilance (being on high alert, anxiety) and constriction (numbing, block/avoiding, detachment and dissociation ).
There are many things I can put here. But the main things I love about this work are being able to see people heal, seeing people go from feeling hopeless to confidence and able to choose their own directions and find autonomy. To find acceptance of situations, and generally being happier and healthier people. Being invited into to people's inner world is a privilege.
There are services which people have found extremely beneficial. However, it is well known in the profession that some agencies and government funded treatments often are restricted in what they can offer, both in terms of amount of time people can spend in therapy and the actual services offered. I find it more fulfilling to work for clients, not being restricted to time limitations. I felt horrible at times working in an agency when clients came to see me who needed long-term work, and the agency could only offer short-term. So, I decided that I did not train for 6 years at university, costing about £60k in tuition fees, to only do half a job for my clients. So I work privately where time limitations are not pushed upon me from above and I can give my clients the time that they need.
It is important for clients to choose the right therapist for them. I am not going to write here trying to convince you to work with me. I would rather simply say: "If you believe what I offer would be beneficial for you, then I may be an option and would be happy to discuss. If not, then choose the therapist that seems right for you and I wish you all the best in this often scary but worthwhile journey".
