What’s the difference between a dietitian and a nutritionist?

Registered dietitians are qualified to assess, diagnose and treat dietary problems or nutritional needs. They also tend to help clients with special dietary requirements or medical conditions. To be a dietitian, you’ve got to be registered with the Health and Care Professionals Council (HCPC). Many dietitians work within the NHS as opposed to privately, although you can still find private dietitians to help advise you on your eating habits. Whereas nutritionists are more likely to be the ones advising on weight loss or sport nutrition. Nutritionists can be registered with the UK Voluntary Register of Nutritionists (UKVRN), but they don't have to be.

What qualifications do you need to be a nutritionist?

To become qualified as a nutritionist, I had to complete a course run by the UKVRN. After completing the course, I became qualified as a registered nutritionist. This means that all my clients can check my qualifications and experience online. Clients can therefore be confident in my abilities, as they know that I'm qualified under a trustworthy organisation.

What’s the most common reason why clients come to you?

Weight loss is the most common reason that new clients come to me. They often find it difficult to know how to get the right nutrients into their diets without feeling hungry or unsatisfied. But over the last few years, I’ve had more and more people coming to me with IBS-related issues. I think that's because more people are recognising the symptoms of IBS and are getting diagnosed. They then come to nutritionists or dietitians for guidance on how to alter their eating habits to help relieve their symptoms.

Courtney is awesome! Great workout & diet. Everything is explained really clearly and she gives a ton of meals to choose from. She also checks up to see how everything is going! I will for sure be using Courtney again for future diets and training programs.

The level of quality and professionalism put into this work is very nice, providing realistic results through nutrition and workouts depending on my goal. This is something serious and if you put your efforts into it, It'll happen.

I have been working with Jennifer as my Health Coach for almost a year. It has been my best year in a long time. I had fallen into the routine of work, work, and more work. I would leave my workday drained, and I resorted to highly refined, quick, refined carbohydrates and sugar. I had poor sleep, and I had stopped exercising. I was gaining weight and finding myself physically limited in some daily activities. I'm a nurse. I know better! Yet I kept trying to change but I kept failing. Meeting Jennifer was a game changer for me. She normalized my struggle, spent time listening to discover what my goals were, and offered practical, small steps to help me start to change to a healthier lifestyle. I always enjoy my meetings with Jennifer. If I thought I had failed one week, Jennifer could see something in my weekly story to help me see that I was making progress. By reaching small goals, I started to feel better, which then spurred me on to more success steps. Small wins over a year have accumulated into big impact. I have gradually lost weight sustainable. I am exercising regularly, and have better mental health because I have learned to balance rest and work. I now have way more energy and even enjoy food more, because Jennifer has opened my eyes to the beauty and richness of food and how to prepare delicious home-cooked meals - while still managing time effectively. With Jennifer's encouragement, motivation, expert advice, and some gentle admonition - "You need to move your body. You need to FEED yourself. Pretend fast food doesn't exist. You don't have to "do" all the time - learn to rest and "be" - I have established foundations for self-care. Now that I have established some healthy rhythms in my life, I am continuing to work with Jennifer so I can zero in even more on some further weight loss and fitness goals. Being a nurse, I thought I knew all I needed to know about what I have to do to promote my health. Working with Jennifer has opened my eyes to fascinating new research about the many practical ways that we can take simple daily steps that have a signicant impact on our health. I recommend Jennifer to everyone I meet who is interested in pursuing some health goals. Even if you are like I was, so discouraged, I didn't know where to start, and you feel like your health is slipping away, Jennifer can personalize a plan and find a way to help you succeed. I love how Jennifer has never imposed her goals for me; she developed a plan that works with my busy life, high stress job, and focuses on what is important to me. Jennifer offers a free first consultation. I would highly recommend meeting her to investigate how she can help you learn to take care of you, while still meeting many other responsibilities that life demands of us.
